Philippe Halsman is one of the most renowned photographers of the 20th century and has created some of the most iconic portraits in modern history. Born in Riga, Latvia in 1906, Halsman became a photographer for LIFE and holds a record of having shot 101 covers for the magazine. Over his career, he took portraits of an incredible array of personalities including Einstein, Dali, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, Alfred Hitchcock, Frank Sinatra, and Winston Churchill. He died in New York City in 1979. The Philippe Halsman, Astonish Me! retrospective was shown at the Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne during the spring and summer of 2014 and will be exhibited at the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume in Paris in September 2015.

Lee Miller is one of the preeminent photographers of the 20th century and is celebrated for both her World War II photography and her legendary portraits of Pablo Picasso. Miller was born in Poughkeepsie, New York in 1907 and began her career as a fashion model in New York City. She trained in photography in Paris and was a disciple of Man Ray before being assigned to cover World War II for Vogue magazine. She died in 1977. Her work has been exhibited at the most prestigious museums and galleries in the world, including a feature exhibition at National Portrait Gallery in London.

Petr Lovigin has been widely hailed as the most noteworthy artist among the new generation of Russian photographers. Born in Yaroslavl in 1981, his work has been exhibited at major museums in Moscow, Istanbul, and Thessaloniki. The series ‘What a Wonderful World’ is dedicated to Louis Armstrong and transplants the American jazz icon into a mythological Russian countryside.

Chien-Chi Chang is a Magnum photographer who was born in Taiwan in 1961. His work has been shown in galleries around the world and is held in the collections of several prominent museums. Chien-Chi Chang’s latest project, Chinatown, is currently being presented at the Busan Biennale in Korea. Chinatown is a photo essay exploring the Chinese diaspora in New York City and the inter-generational relationships between the immigrants to America and their families who remained in Fuzhou, China. The images have been combined into a mesmerizing video photo essay that will be shown at the MIA&D Fair along with a selection of other images.
