Paris Photo 2014
Yuichi Hibi "Salt of the Earth" 2007

only photography will be presenting the first two titles in the new series "250":

Kosuke Okahara's series "Almost Paradise", made in 2013, recounts the story of South American, primarily Colombian migrants attempting to reach the USA on risky and difficult routes via Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama and Mexico. In compelling black and white images, Okahara has captured the joys and sufferings of these people without turning them into mere objects for his camera. The book was printed using an unusual process which lends it an appearance reminiscent of intaglio work. In this way it conveys the full drama of disappointed hopes.

Yuichi Hibi's "Salt of the Earth" was produced on Okinawa, Japan's "island of centenarians" in 2007. Hibi employs dropped horizons, stark contrasts and occasional extreme sections to stage the island and its inhabitants pictorially; with this perspective so typical of post-war Japanese photography, he joins the tradition of the Japanese masters of the 1970s like Nakahira, Moriyama and Takanashi.

Both books will be appearing in an edition of 250 copies, which will again include a "special edition" with one or two silver gelatin prints signed by the artist. For all those who cannot manage a trip to the city of photography, as from next week the books by Kosuke Okahara and Yuichi Hibi will be available for further viewing from next week at 78 Niebuhrstrasse, Berlin.

Yuichi Hibis "Salt of the Earth", entstand 2007 auf Okinawa, Japans "Insel der Hundertjährigen".
