About the Masterclass
Learning from the best – 4 master photographers will guide 16 promising photographers through the process of developing a long-term photo project. During this ten-month-long intensive masterclass, the students will learn how to develop, start, implement, and present their individual photographic projects.

Structure
- 10 months – 10 weekends full of workshops, discussions, group activities, and reviews
- Saturdays: workshops, lectures, reviews etc. led by the four masters (Andrew Phelps, Klaus Pichler, Reiner Riedler, Annet van der Voort)
- Sundays: workshops, lectures, reviews etc. led by guest lecturers (e.g.: Bruce Gilden, Gerry Badger, Cristina de Middel, Rob Hornstra, Olivia Arthur, Nicolo Degiorgis, Simon Roberts, Ania Nalecka)
- Only the first, introductory weekend will be three days long (24.-27.9.2015)
- The goal for each photographer is to complete a long-term project during the masterclass, either an exhibition and/or a book
- A final presentation of all projects will take place at AnzenbergerGallery in June, 2016

Working on a long-term project
- develop ideas and concepts

- approach people and find places to photograph
- edit and sequence
- make a budget for your project
- present your work and promote your project
- work on a book and/or exhibition

The masterclass offers
- supervision by the master photographers over ten months
- open discussions and critiques
- individual portfolio reviews
- lectures, workshops, and reviews by national and international photography experts such as Bruce Gilden, Gerry Badger, Cristina de Middel, Rob Hornstra, Olivia Arthur, Nicolo Degiorgis, Simon Roberts, Ania Nalecka etc.
- workshops and seminars on topics like bookmaking, editing, production, and budgeting

Registration
The deadline for submission is May 30, 2015. Out of all the submissions, 16 photographers will be selected.

Requirements
- this workshop is designed for advanced or semi-advanced photographers who possess a high level of technical and visual skills
- participants should be at a stage in their career where they are still open to learning new things
- participants should understand spoken and written English
- there are no limitations regarding age or nationality

- a concept for a long-term photo project (max. 2 pages with, if available, 5-10 images)
- a portfolio or link to your website

Fee
The application is free of charge. The fee for successful applicants will be 3950€, including supervision by the master photographers during the masterclass and 10 weekends of workshops and lectures. Payment instructions will be given to you upon acceptance to the workshop. Successful applicants must make themselves available for all workshops – there are no refunds for days missed!

Travel & Accommodation

Participants are expected to make their own arrangements regarding travel and accommodation. Please ensure that you have the relevant visas and travel documents that are necessary to attend the events.

Master Photographers

ANNET VAN DER VOORT was born in Emmen, The Netherlands. From 1987 to 1992, she studied visual communications at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund, Germany. She graduated in 1993. Since1990, her work has been presented in many solo and group exhibitions, accompanied by various international publications. In 1998/99, she was teaching at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium. Her work is in collections such as (selection): Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart/D, European Polaroid Collection, Prague/CR, Industriemuseum, Dortmund/D, National Museum of Photography, Bradford/GB, Museet for Fotokunst, Odense/DK, Deutsches Architektur Museum, and Frankfurt/D. REINER RIEDLER was born in Gmunden, Austria in 1968. He studied ethnology and attended a college for photography in Vienna. He later decided to dedicate himself solely to photography and studied image sciences at the Danube University of Krems. As a traveller, he visits the peripheries of our habitats, always searching for the fragile beauty of human existence with all its desires and abysses. His most recent work deals with fundamental questions of existence. KLAUS PICHLER was born in Vienna 1977 and raised in Judenburg in Styria. During his studies of landscape architecture at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, Klaus Pichler had already developed an intense interest in photography. The decision to devote himself exclusively to photography took place after graduation. Numerous national and international exhibitions and awards followed. ANDREW PHELPS is an American photographer who has been living in Europe since 1990. His work is influenced by the cross-cultural lifestyle he now leads, dividing his time between the deserts of Arizona and the Alps of Austria. He works as a curator and board member of the GALERIE FOTOHOF in Salzburg. His personal work is represented by the ROBERT MORAT GALERIE in Hamburg, GALERIE BRUNNHOFER in Linz, GALERIE JO VAN DE LOO in Munich, and he works closely with the Berlin-based agency, ART LOVE AFFAIR. Along with a constant pursuit of new work, Andrew keeps a blog about special-edition photography books called BUFFET. Andrew is a member of the PIECE OF CAKE project. www.andrew-phelps.com
