4-day workshop: 29 June – 2 July, 2018

KUNST HAUS WIEN is delighted to announce a photographic workshop with Finnish photographer Elina Brotherus on the topic "A NEW APPROACH TO AUTOBIOGRAPHY" in conjunction with the first comprehensive mid-career retrospective of the photographer in Austria.

The workshop will be held from 29 June - 2 July, 2018, at the KUNST HAUS WIEN. It will be based in the extraordinary rooftop apartment of Friedensreich Hundertwasser above the KUNST HAUS WIEN where lectures and discussions will take place, and participants will be shooting there and throughout the city of Vienna.

"Self-portraiture is a tricky and charged subject matter as everyone who has practiced it knows. In this 4-day workshop we will discuss its various aspects and in the assignment go beyond the ordinary self-depiction. Working alone alternates with working together as a group. Sharing our time and our images is an important part of the experience. Emphasis will also be put on the selection and editing process which is a crucial part of the work of a photographer." – Elina Brotherus

Das KUNST HAUS WIEN organisiert mit der finnischen Künstlerin Elina Brotherus einen Foto-Workshop zum Thema "A NEW APPROACH TO AUTOBIOGRAPHY". Der Workshop wird von Elina Brotherus geleitet und findet im Rahmen ihrer aktuellen Mid-Carreer Retrospektive "IT’S NOT ME IT’S A PHOTOGRAPH" statt, die Brotherus‘ bisheriges Schaffen mit stark autobiografischen und kunstgeschichtlichen Bezügen umfangreich vorstellt.

Von 29. Juni bis 2. Juli 2018 steht Fotografinnen und Fotografen die Möglichkeit offen, in der einzigartigen Atmosphäre der Dachgeschosswohnung des KUNST HAUS WIEN, von Friedensreich Hundertwasser gestaltet und vormals bewohnt, inmitten des sommerlichen Wien neue fotografische Perspektiven zu erarbeiten.

"Porträtfotografie ist eine schwierige und emotionsgeladene Angelegenheit, wie jeder weiß, der sie praktiziert hat. In diesem 4-tägigen Workshop werden wir ihre zahlreichen Aspekte diskutieren und über die gängige Form der Selbstdarstellung hinausgehen. Die Gruppenarbeit wechselt sich mit Arbeit im Alleingang ab. Unsere Zeit und unsere Bilder zu teilen ist ein wichtiger Teil der Erfahrung. Ein Schwerpunkt soll auch auf dem Bearbeitungs- und Auswahlprozess liegen, welcher für die Arbeit als FotografIn äußerst wichtig ist." – Elina Brotherus
