The Ravestijn Gallery presents ‘Blue Blanc Rouge’, an exhibition featuring new work by the Canadian photographer Christopher Anderson. ‘Blue Blanc Rouge’ tells a story about big city life. Captured in the United States, France, Italy, Spain and Germany, the photographs depict broad streets, crowds of people, high buildings and skylines. Everything in motion – walking, waving, pointing, falling – yet entirely still. In this dynamic between movement and stillness, Anderson flirts with the nature and language of cinema; ‘Blue Blanc Rouge’ resembles a series of stills from a never- made movie. Each image is a moment distilled from a larger narrative, just as the city is a mosaic of different lives, stories and captured moments.

Christopher Anderson (1970) was born in Canada and raised in the United States. In 2000, Anderson received the Robert Capa Gold Medal for his series on the crossing made by boat by Haitian refugees to the United States. He was also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He has worked for Newsweek Magazine and National Geographic Magazine and in 2011 he became the first Photographer in Residence at New York Magazine. He is a member of Magnum Photos. Five books have been published on his work. Following ‘Nonfiction’ (2003), ‘Capitolio’ (2009), ‘Son’ (2013) and ‘Stump’ (2014), his latest book ‘Approximate Joy’ will be published in September of this year by Stanley/Barker. Anderson lives and works in both New York and Barcelona.
