In der Ausstellung der Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz "ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? "ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? ____english_____ Thomas Florschuetz, born in 1957, became one of the most exciting award winning German photographers within the past two decades. He started his international career in the late 1980s taking photographs of his own body. These Körperstücke are characteristically for his body of work even today. For this the exhibition at Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz "ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? – SPRICHST DU MIT MIR?" will have on display the work hier und da (1995), which consists of 30 photographs showing slightly different and subtly changed pairs of human heels. Due to the selected cutting and the special arrangement one does not perceive the work as photographs of the human body. Instead of it the work gets a new aesthetic quality by its own. It stimulates the viewer to think about the way we look at the world around us and the things that belong to our own daily life. Thomas Florschuetz does not want to interpret the world by taking photographs of it. He wants us to think about the way we look at the world and the things in it. Within the last years he transferred his approach to other subjects. On the one hand he still takes photographs of selected parts of his own body and the skin as a membrane, which separates the human organism from the world outside (the series Plexus, since 1993). On the other hand he extended his approach to subjects like blinds and windows (the series Multiple Entry, since 1997) and - in his latest works called Enclosures (since 2001) - he plays with the topic of the inside world and the world outside by taking photographs of buildings designed by Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius and Oscar Niemeyer. Since the 1990s Thomas Florschuetz’s works are exhibited in galleries and museums all over the world. "ARE YOU TALKING TO ME? – SPRICHST DU MIR MIR?" is a project by Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz together with Kunstmuseum Bonn and BALTIC The Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead/UK. The exhibition gives a view of the current work by the artist. After special presentations in Bonn/Germany and Gateshead/UK in spring and summer 2004 the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz will exhibit a special selection by the artist himself at the turn of the year. More than 20 works consisting of 60 single large-scale photographs give an insight into different parts of the body of work by Thomas Florschuetz. Thomas Friedrich/ Kurator, Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz
