J'habite Budapest
quelques gouttes de pluie, 1998, gelatin silver print, 30 x 40 cm, Ed. 25 ex.

For its second participation at the Month of Photography Biennale in Paris, PHOTO4 gallery presents 30 gelatin siver prints by Bruno Bourel, all taken in Budapest, his adopted city since 1989.

Daily work leads us to be in contact with infinite combinations that chance helps to arrive or not at culmination. Photographer tries to pull out the present toward a sphere where shines the absence of time landmarks. Infinite combinations of life led me one day to Budapest and again and again. Looking around endlessely who is hinding behind a door, who will cross over the courtyard. Daily landscape of the street, buses, tramways, cafés, sidewalks; rituals of striding along, tearing the soles of the shoes, framing tha comes. All that leads you everywhere or nowhere, light guided I do not know why I take one street where not another but I know that I always go back home, climb my stairs, look out through my window... Of course those who know the place could feel the sweat of history on every picture, for those who don't, let them grow curiosity and fantasy. Bruno Bourel

photographier necesse est To be present, patient, to seize the unseizable. The subject is no longer there, all we see are the sorry relics of a protest : vynil bag, rosettes, bakelite camera. Can you catch a crowd, see through it, through those nineties years ? Hungarian times are all ohmygod years, rages, injustices, rough tweed overcoats. Photograph it one must, even if the apparatus is soviet. Parti Nagy Lajos
