The Comunidad de Madrid presents a retrospective of one of the most outstanding figures in contemporary Spanish art.
The exhibition covers two decades of introspective and multidisciplinary work.
Laura Torrado’s work is introspective. Photography has enabled her to explore other forms of expression, such as dance or drama. Using resources linked to stage design she creates scenes that allow her to explore the body and the face in a wide range of aspects. This retrospective looks at her work from 1993 to 2013. Photographs, videos and drawings constitute the main format of all her pieces. Her work hinges on criteria extracted from sculpture, performance and acting.
Laura Torrado (Madrid, 1967) completed her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she recently completed her doctorate summa cum laude. In 1992, she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to live in New York and work in the Conservation Departments of the Guggenheim Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. In 2000, she scooped the following awards: Altadis in Plastic Arts; Purificación García for Photography; and the Comunidad de Madrid's Plastic Arts Prize. She has also been awarded scholarships by the Círculo de Bellas Artes in 2011 and Caja Madrid in 2003, among others. Presently, she teaches at the Fine Arts faculty of Castilla-La Mancha in Cuenca. Her work is featured in the collections of the Museo Patio Herreriano of Valladolid, Museo Vasco de Arte Contemporáneo-Artium, Contemporary Art Collection of the Fundación Altadis, Fundación Coca Cola, Purificación García Collection and Comunidad de Madrid Collection.
