Italian photographer Luigi Ghirri (1943 - 1992) revolutionized contemporary photography in Italy. The emotional depth of his pictures, the humor of his vision enabled a new reflection on the perception of the world and the role of the image - this year's Italian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale subsequently devoted much space to a presentation of "Italian Photography after Ghirri".

French photographer François Halard (* 1961) studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, today he lives in New York, Paris and Arles in the South of France. His editorial work for international magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair or Vogue Living has made him one of the most successful and best-known architectural photographers of our time. At the same time Harald is a prolific collector with close ties to the art world and friendships with many artists. Halard's visit to the Luigi Ghirri house in the village of Roncocesi in Reggio Emilia has become a congenial portrait of the artist himself, Halard's photographs of the Ghirri home and studio capture a poetic universe.

Der italienische Fotograf Luigi Ghirri (1943 – 1992) revolutionierte die zeitgenössische Fotografie in Italien. Die emotionale Tiefe seiner Bilder, der Humor seines Blicks ermöglichten ein neues Nachdenken über die Wahrnehmung der Welt und die Rolle der Abbildung in ihr. Der Kurator des italienischen Pavillion auf der Biennale in Venedig widmet dem Thema „Italian Photography after Ghirri“ in diesem Jahr folgerichtig beachtenswert viel Raum.

Der französische Fotograf François Halard (*1961) studierte an der École nationale superiéure des Arts décoratifs in Paris, er lebt heute in New York, Paris und Arles in Südfrankreich. Seine Arbeit für Zeitschriften wie Vogue, Vogue Living oder Vanity Fair hat ihn zu einem der international gefragtesten und bekanntesten Architekturfotografen unserer Zeit gemacht. Gleichzeitig ist Harald ein profilierter Sammler, den mit vielen Künstlern enge Freundschaften verbinden. So ist sein Besuch in Luigi Ghirris Haus in dem Dorf Roncocesi in der Reggio Emilia zu einem Künstlerportrait geworden, Halards Fotografien aus Ghirris Heim und Atelier bilden ein poetisches Universum ab.
