As well as working regularly with all the major Australian public galleries on exhibitions and projects, in recent years Stills Gallery has taken an active role promoting Australian photomedia artists abroad. In 2008, Trent Parke, Petrina Hicks and Martin Smith were showcased in Paris Photo. Australia's only full member of Magnum photo agency, Trent Parke, has a wide international following, and has exhibited in specialist museums such as FOAM museum, Amsterdam, and in Russia, UK, USA, Poland, France and Bangladesh. Also in 2008, Pat Brassington had a large survey exhibition in Lönnström Art Museum, Finland and Polixeni Papapetrou participated in Artist File, National Art Centre, Tokyo. Stills Gallery artists are often sought after for exhibitions and special projects, recent examples being Photoquai, Paris (Anne Noble at Musée du Quai Branly), Busan Biennale, Korea (Ricky Maynard), and C Photo, New York (Petrina Hicks & Trent Parke).
Stills Gallery is housed in a 300sqm converted warehouse in Paddington, Sydney's principal gallery precinct. The spaciousness of the premises enables the exhibition programming to be ambitious and diverse. In 2007, Magnum's "New Blood" 60th anniversary exhibition was brought to Sydney, with Stills Gallery being its exclusive venue in Australia. In 2006, Stills Gallery premiered Roger Ballen's work in Australia, an exhibition that became part of a major survey show curated by the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
A member of the Australian Commercial Gallery Association (ACGA) Stills Gallery advises private and corporate collectors on all aspects of starting or maintaining a contemporary photography collection.
