Alex Prager

13 September - 25 October 2014
Alex Prager was born in Los Angeles, where she lives and works. Self-taught, work by the photographer William Eggleston particularly inspired her. She rapidly met with international success exhibiting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (MoMA) as well as the Whitney Museum of American Art in San Francisco. Winning many awards, she was nominated in 2012 for the famous Paul Huf Award by FOAM (Photography Museum Amsterdam) and as a director with an Emmy Award for her series of short films Touch of Evil. In 2009 she took part in the Vevey International Photography Award.
FACE IN THE CROWD
In Face in the Crowd Alex Prager explores the emotions associated with crowd phenomena through photography and cinema. Following complex visual scenarios involving many participants, Alex Prager exposes the paradoxes of the individual lost in a crowd. One of the means that the artist uses to achieve her goal is the meticulous choice of accessories and clothes worn by her characters. The framing helps to provide the spectator with an unusual experience of crowds: the smallest details become apparent, acting therefore as many visual clues to become more familiar with the personal history and intimacy of each character. Produced in 2013 in Los Angeles, the series Face in the Crowd is the artist’s latest to date. It is composed of many photographic images, but also videos and film stills. Alex Prager devised a specific installation for Festival Images.
Another work by Alex Prager is presented in the ‘open-air’ section of Festival Images from 13 September to 5th October.
