Beijing-based artist WANG Qingsong creates large-scale photographs that dramatize the rise of consumer culture in contemporary China. Often staging elaborate tableau or digitally manipulating his subjects, WANG's work deploys force and humor to raise questions about China’s economic transformation and its consequences. His work has been featured in numerous international exhibitions throughout Asia and Europe, including NOW: Images of Present Time, at Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal (2003), Constructed Reality: Conceptual Photography from Beijing, at the Hong Kong Arts Center (2001), Paris-Pekin, at the Espace Cardin, Paris (2002), and the 2000 Kwangju Biennale.
