For this edition of the fair, East Wing will be exhibiting an exciting mix of artists both at our booth in the fair and as part of the Unseen Collection, an initiative that promotes affordable collecting of contemporary photographs. For Future Reference, curated by Lars Willumeit, includes works that speak to East Wing’s ongoing strategy of exposing new, globally relevant perspectives in photography both within the region and internationally. All four bodies of work presented use thought provoking imagery that explore, question and re-imagine nature, technology, history and science; challenging themes usually held as neutral, static and absolute. The artists use different strategies in their work, yet all interrogate scientific authority. For Future Reference will include works by: East Wing present artists who use different photographic strategies and perspectives, yet all interrogate scientific authority based on expert knowledge. For Future Reference will include works from: Yann Mingard (Switzerland) - DEPOSIT, Robert Zhao Renhui (Singapore) - A Guide to the Flora and Fauna of the World, Regine Petersen (Germany) - Find a Falling Star/The Indian Iron (Premiere!), Jules Spinatsch (Switzerland) - ASYNCHRONOUS I – X Each of these series propose ways of redefining an outlook on the age of Anthropocene, where nature, in the sense of physical matter unaltered by human impact, has all but disappeared.
