What is real, what is illusion? Delphine Burtin is controlling this optical confusion perfectly. She creates images that let us see things that do not exist. Delphine Burtin photographs trivial objects. Anonymous things we encounter every day, banal and common. Doing so she is experimenting with the effects of forms, colors, lines and surfaces, showing us the subjectivity of visual perception.

I like it when our brain plays tricks on us and creates a trompel’oeil, making us see and believe something that is not, in fact, there. Born in 1974, Delphine Burtin lives and works in Lausanne (Switzerland).After studying graphic design, she worked as a designer for several years, both for advertising agencies and freelance. In 2011, she did advanced training in photography at the Vevey School of Applied Arts (CEPV- Centre d’Enseignement Professional de Vevey). The following year, the Dispa- rition series was presented at Photoforum PasquArt (Bienne) and Les Boutographies in Montpellier, to mention just a few. Then, in 2013, Encouble, her graduation series, met with immediate and wide success: it was shortlisted for PhotoBook of the Year from Aperture Fondation at Paris Photo 2013, won 1st Prize during the Selection exhibition at Photoforum PasquArt, and is the recipient of thePrix HSBC 2014. The series has already been shown in Berlin, Paris, Lille, Metz, Bordeaux, Strasbourg et Montpellier. Her work questions the notions of illusion and disappearance through still lifes or visual rebuses playing with the ambiguity of perception.

Her latest series Sans condition initiale is part of the group exhibition "reGeneration3 – Quelles perspectives pour la pho- tographie?" an international project dedicated to an emerging photo scene, starting at the Musée de l‘Elysée in Lausanne.

Was ist real, was ist Täuschung? Delphine Burtin beherrscht dieses optische Verwirrspiel perfekt. Sie fotografiert fast immer banale Gegenstände. Dinge, denen wir jeden Tag begegnen, anonyme Objekte des Alltags. Dabei experimentiert sie mit der Wirkung von Farben, Formen, Linien und Flächen aufeinander, mit der Subjektivität der optischen Wahrnehmung.

"Überrascht von dem, was ich meine, gesehen zu haben, muss ich innehalten und die Wirklichkeit neu überprüfen. Meine Bilder kreiere ich fast so, wie man ein Layout gestaltet. Formen, Objekte und Texturen anordnen und strukturieren innerhalb eines gegebenen Rahmen, und dabei versu- chen, das Auge des Betrachters zu lenken und ihn sehen zu lassen, was ich möchte." Delphine Burtin wurde 1974 geboren und lebt und arbeitet in Lausanne. Nach ihrer langjährigen Arbeit als Grafikdesignerin bildete sie sich in Vevey zur Fotografin aus und geniesst mit ihrer künstlerischen Arbeit seither grossen Erfolg. 2013 verhalf ihr die Serie "Encouble" zum internationalen Durchbruch: Burtin wurde beim Wettbewerb "PhotoBook of the Year" an der Paris Photo auf die Shortlist gesetzt. Sie gewann 2013 den ersten Preis am Photoforum PasquArt in Biel und ist Gewinnerin des renommierten Prix HSBC 2014. Ihre Arbeit wurde u.a. in Berlin, Paris, Strassburg und Montpellier gezeigt, noch dieses Jahr wird eine Einzelausstellung in New York eröffnet.

Ihre neuste Serie "Sans condition initiale" ist Teil der Wanderausstellung "reGeneration3 – Quelles perspectives pour la pho- tographie?". Die Schau des Musée de l‘Elysée versammelt die 50 interessantesten, "international emerging photographers" und ist noch bis Ende August 2015 dort zu sehen. Danach geht die Ausstellung auf weltweite Tournee. Nach der Einzelausstellung der Bildhalle, wird Delphine Burtins Werk mit einer Einzelausstellung in der Galerie Benrubi in New York vorgestellt.
