Art Basel’s European edition brings the international artworld together, with more than 280 of the world’s leading galleries showing works from 4,000 artists, ranging from Modern great masters to current emerging stars.
We present a full program of talks each day during the show, while cultural institutions from Basel and the region offer exhibitions and events, creating an exciting week of art.

This year, 286 leading international galleries will present works ranging from the early 20th century to the most contemporary artists of today. The Basel show, whose Lead Partner is UBS, will present a diverse geographical selection of leading international galleries from 33 countries. Alongside a strong representation of galleries from Europe, exhibitors and artists will be shown from across the globe. The participating galleries have exhibition spaces in Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Galleries, the main sector of the show, will feature 220 galleries presenting the highest quality of painting, sculpture, drawing, installation, photography, video and editioned works. A strong list of returning exhibitors is joinedby six galleries who will exhibit within the sector for the first time, having previously shown in Statements or Feature: Jack Shainman Gallery (New York, Kinderhook), Stevenson (Cape Town, Johannesburg), Barbara Wien (Berlin)... The Galleries sector will also include two completely new exhibitors: joségarcía,mx (Mexico DF)and Pace/MacGill Gallery (New York).
The Edition sector, dedicated to prints and limited-editioned works, will bring together 16 specialists in the field. This year’s show will feature Niels Borch Jensen Gallery and Editions (Copenhagen, Berlin), Alan Cristea Gallery (London), mfc –michèle didier (Paris), Sabine Knust (Munich), Carolina Nitsch (New York), ...
The Feature sector presents galleries with precise curatorial projects, showing both historical and contemporary work. This year’s expanded sector will feature 32 galleries. Waldburger Wouters (Brussels) will present Lynn Hershman Leeson’s (b.1941) ground breaking ‘The Roberta Breitmore Series’(1974–1978), a body of work encompassing the key elements of the artist's practice and widely acknowledged as being a precursor to the later work of Cindy Sherman and Sophie Calle.
Solo presentations in the Statements sector offer visitors and collectors the opportunity to discover the work of emerging artists and young galleries. Foxy Production (New York) will show ‘Soft Misogyny’(2016), a major new film by Sara Cwynar (b.1985) that reflects her interest inhow objects circulate via the internet. Micky Schubert (Berlin) will present an environment of photographic images by Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili (b.1979), specially conceived for the show, and Arratia Beer (Berlin) will present Mary Reid Kelley’s (b.1979) new film ‘This is Offal’(2015), whichexamines suicidein tragicomic form. Selma Feriani Gallery (Sidi Bou Said) will presenta selection of mixed media works by Massinissa Selmani(b.1980)representing the artist’s continuous journey in exploring and depictingmovementinspired by popular imagery and happenings. TheBaloiseArt Prizewill be awarded to up to two artists exhibiting in Statements, with recipients being announced during the show in June.
Screened at Stadtkino Basel, Art Basel's Film program, which features films by and about artists, will be curated for the second time by Cairo-based film curator and art lecturer Maxa Zoller.
