« Tehran was once called the city of plane trees and it was possible for a traveller to complain about the density of trees and gardens around it, hiding it from visitors (Bell, 1928), who were searching inside these green walls hoping to unveil some remainder of the exotic and sleepy Orient of a magical past. Now, Tehran is a giant metropolis which has devoured its green borders and whose two revolutions and many more upheavals this century have changed the city and shaken the world around it. Nevertheless, it still remains a city hidden from the outside world, enwrapped within what appears to be a new clothing made from a political and ideological fabric.» Ali Madanipour, Tehran ; the making of a metropolis. “ HAUT BAS FRAGILE intends to propose an alternative image of Tehran, namely its most visible and ignored face. Furthermore, this project questions the possibility of representing this city. Since this project is an effect of a desire to photograph a town that has offered resistance to be translated into image for a long period of time. These different photographic forms offer micro stories: the stories of its inhabitants and my own stories, rooted in an ordinary city.”
