LP2 in Las Palmas, Wilhelminakade 326, Rotterdam, The Netherlands
The first edition of Haute Photographie will open next month at Rotterdam’s LP2 in Las Palmas. Haute Photographie, a photography fair with a concept unlike any other, takes a museum- quality group exhibition as its starting point, bringing together a select group of international galleries. Participating in the 2017 edition of Haute Photographie are Esther Woerdehoff (Paris), Grundemark/Nilsson (Stockholm/Berlin), Howard Greenberg Gallery (New York), Ibasho Gallery (Antwerp) and Kahmann Gallery (Amsterdam).
The exhibition will present a wide range of genres within photography, with works by an extensive list of international artists. As part of the list of the over 50 featured artists exhibiting a total of more than 250 artworks are renowned names such as Hiroshi Sugimoto, Antoine d’Agata, William Klein and Albert Watson. Next to established artists, the younger generation of photographers is well represented in the exhibition – among them Inka and Niclas, Martin Essl, Hideyuki Ishibashi and Ester Vonplon.
Next to the main exhibition, Haute Photographie will tie together the past and the contemporay with two dedicated exhibitions: one featuring rare vintage pieces by artists such as Leonard Freed, Ruth Orkin, Sanne Sannes and Christer Strömholm, the other presenting young Dutch photography talents, including Ramazan Barlas and Aisha Zeijpveld.
Numerous premiering artists and images
Haute Photographie will see contributions from various artists showcasing their work for the first time in the Netherlands. Among the first-timers are the South-African photographer Koto Bolofo and the Portuguese artist Noé Sendas. In addition, numerous artists including Laura Hospes, Bastiaan Woudt and Schilte & Portielje will have premiering photographs at the fair.
Further highlights at the fair will be Albert Watson’s Golden Boy, New York City, one of the legendary image-maker’s most memorable pieces, and Ruth Orkin’s American Girl in Florence, often regarded as one of the most iconic photographs from the 50s.
A fascinating educational program with Nederlands Fotomuseum
In collaboration with Nederlands Fotomuseum, Haute Photographie offers an educational program ranging from guided tours of both the museum’s exhibitions and the fair, artist talks and introductions to collecting and preserving photography. Among the program highlights are a talk by artist Jeroen Toirkens and journalist Jelle Brandt Corstius about their on-going artistic project Borealis, and a look behind the scenes of Nederlands Fotomuseum with Head of Collections Martijn van den Broek.
Haute Photographie is an international photography fair with a refreshing take on the fair format. Initiated by Roy Kahmann, director of Kahmann Gallery, publisher of GUP Magazine and a long-term advocate of photography in the Netherlands, Haute will be officially launched as part of Art Rotterdam Week in February 2017. The fair takes a carefully curated exhibition as its starting point, which provides a fascinating look at photography as a fine art medium. Accompanied by a focus exhibition on young Dutch photography talent, a talks program in association with Nederlands Fotomuseum, a book market in collaboration with GUP Magazine and more, Haute will be a must visit during Art Rotterdam Week, one of the key events in contemporary art in the Netherlands.
