The Frankfurt Fotografie Forum Academy (FFF) begins its tenth year with a richly diversified programme. Almost 30 workshops and lectures impart current positions and specific issues of contemporary photography. In particular, each of the two-day workshops focus on practice-based dialogue with the participants: The instructors, all world class international photographers and artists, amoung them the US photographers Ann Mandelbaum, Pep Bonet, Stanley Greene and the German photographer Olaf Otto Becker, discuss portfolios and the participants' work and together they develop ideas and concepts for photography projects.

Highlights and Features of the 2017 Programme:

In terms of workshops, they begin with the Finnish photographer Elina Brotherus (*1972), who has already been an instructor at the FFF Academy. Under the title "Artist and Model", this artist will focus on the themes of identity, portrait and photographic autobiography. In the lecture (Friday 10.02.) and workshop (Saturday/Sunday 11./12.02.), Brotherus examines the role of the subject in photography and self-portrait as well as the interaction between the artist and the model.

The first-ever multi-part workshop of the FFF Academy starts on the second Saturday in March (11.03.): The German photographer Heinrich Voelkel (*1974), member of the Berlin Photography Group OSTKREUZ and also an experienced instructor at the FFF Academy, together with the participants will begin a long term project focusing on "Family". The workshop stretches over four additional Saturdays in the year and ends in December with a presentation of the results at the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt.

At the same time, there are several workshops and discussions with the exhibited artists as part of the FFF Exhibition "DANUBE REVISITED. THE INGE MORATH TRUCK PROJECT" (25.02. – 28.05.2017). The show presents more than 100 works from eight international photographers that made a 34 day journey in 2014 along the Danube, as well as original photos from Inge Morath herself.

Editing one's own works, exceptional photo books and other self publishing will be covered by the British Magnum photographer Olivia Arthur (*1980). In her lecture (Friday 12.05.), this Inge Morath prize winner and DANUBE REVISITED artist introduces, amoung other things "Fishbar", a bookshop with an exhibition room that she runs with her partner German photographer Philipp Ebeling in London. Following the lecture, a book signing is planned with Arthur and Ebeling. In the workshop 'Love it or leave it' (Saturday/Sunday 13./14.05.), the participants will be working on their own book project taken from their respective portfolios under the guidance and instruction of Olivia Arthur.

The presentation of photography is also the central theme of Emily Schiffer (*1980, Newton, USA). This photo journalist and co-initiator of the Danube Project has won international attention and a number of awards with her multimedia and interactive photo projects such as the installation of large format photos in abandoned buildings in Chicago or a photography programme for young Indians living on a Cheyenne Reservation. Under the title "If your Picture was the Beginning", she considers the question of what a photo can become once it has been taken such as in image processing and the use of multimedia forms of presentation. Already at the end of March, the Spanish photographer Lurdes R. Basolí (*1981, Barcelona) is coming to Frankfurt. This co-initiator of the Danube Project is devoting herself to the theme of documentary photography with a view to landscapes: under the title 'The Landscape of the River as a Portrait', Basolí, together with the participants, explores the limits of objectivity and discusses the feasible proximity of the photographer to his or her subject. (Workshop: Saturday/Sunday 01./02.04.).

Lurdes R. Basolí lives in Barcelona and San Sebastián as an independent photographer for international media. Her lecture "What the River reveals" (Friday 31.03.) is part of Photography Players. With this recent FFF discussion format that began for the Book Exhibition in the Fall of 2016 (with the support of LVMH Watches & Jewelry), Celina Lunsford, FFF Artistic Director, introduces young talent as well as innovative trends and projects in photography.

Three times in early summer, the popular workshop "Frankfurt through the lens (Fotogehen – Frankfurt sehen)" is listed in the Academy programme. Respectively on the first Saturday in May (06.05.), June (03.06.) and July (01.07.), the Frankfurt photographer and photo journalist Nils Thies will undertake, together with the participants, a photo tour through Frankfurt. The objective is new vantage points and perspectives of the Main metropolis, its architecture, its urbanity and its dwellers. This half-day course is aimed specifically toward photography novices and Frankfurt newcomers that want to sharpen and train their view under the instruction and guidance of a profi.

Additionally in the FFF Academy 2017 Programme: Workshops and lectures with the US photographer Ann Mandelbaum (Lecture 28.04.17; Workshop: 29./30.04.17) as well as photographer Pep Bonet (Lecture: 30.06.17; Workshop: 01./02.07.17) and Stanley Greene (Workshop: 10./11.06.17), both members of the Photography Agency NOOR, Amsterdam. Also in 2017 once again with a lecture and workshop in Frankfurt: the German photographer Olaf Otto Becker (Lecture: 16.06.17; Workshop: 17./18.06.17) and Thekla Ehling (Workshop: 26./27.08.17). In September the French Magnum photographer Bruno Barbey is visiting Frankfurt with a lecture and workshop (09./10.09.17) – Fotografie Forum Frankfurt's contribution to the 2017 Frankfurt Book Fair’s guest of honour France.

Mit einem abwechslungsreichen Programm startet die Akademie des Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) in ihr zehntes Jahr. Allein fast 30 Workshops und Vorträge vermitteln aktuelle Positionen und individuelle Fragestellungen der Gegenwartsfotografie. Insbesondere die jeweils zweitägigen Workshops setzen auf den praxisorientierten Dialog mit den Teilnehmern: Die Dozenten, allesamt hochkarätige internationale Fotografen und Künstler, darunter die US-Fotografen Ann Mandelbaum, Pep Bonet, Stanley Greene und der deutsche Fotograf Olaf Otto Becker, diskutieren Portfolios und Arbeiten der Teilnehmer und entwickeln gemeinsam mit ihnen Ideen und Konzepte für fotografische Projekte.

Highlights und Besonderheiten aus dem Programm 2017:

Den Anfang in Sachen Workshops macht die finnische Fotografin Elina Brotherus (*1972), die bereits als Dozentin für die FFF-Akademie tätig war. Unter dem Titel "Artist und Model" beschäftigt sich die Künstlerin mit den Themen Identität, Porträt und fotografische Autobiografie. In Vortrag (Freitag, 10.02.) und Workshop (Samstag/Sonntag, 11./12.02.) beleuchtet Brotherus die Rolle des Subjekts im Foto und im Selbstporträt sowie die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Künstler und Model.

Der erste mehrteilige Workshop der FFF-Akademie startet am zweiten Samstag im März (11.03.): Dann beginnt der deutsche Fotograf Heinrich Voelkel (*1974), Mitglied der Berliner Fotografen-Gruppe OSTKREUZ und ebenfalls erfahrener Dozent der FFF-Akademie, gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmern ein Langzeitprojekt zum Thema "Familie". Der Workshop erstreckt sich über vier weitere Samstage im Jahr und endet im Dezember mit einer Präsentation der Ergebnisse im Fotografie Forum Frankfurt.

Gleich mehrere Workshops und Gespräche mit den ausgestellten Künstlerinnen beinhaltet das Rahmenprogramm der FFF-Ausstellung "DONAUREISE. AUF DEN SPUREN VON INGE MORATH" (25.02.–28.05.2017). Die Schau zeigt mehr als 100 Arbeiten von acht internationalen Fotografinnen, die 2014 zu einer 34-tägigen Reise entlang der Donau aufbrachen, sowie Originalfotos von Inge Morath selbst.

Um das Editieren der eigenen Arbeiten, ungewöhnliche Fotobücher und sonstige Eigenpublikationen geht es bei der britischen Magnum-Fotografin Olivia Arthur (*1980). In ihrem Vortrag (Freitag, 12.05.) stellt die Inge-Morath-Preisträgerin und DONAUREISE-Künstlerin unter anderem "Fishbar" vor, eine Buchhandlung mit Ausstellungsraum, die sie mit ihrem Partner, dem deutschen Fotografen Philipp Ebeling, in London betreibt. Geplant ist im Anschluss ein Booksigning mit Arthur und Ebeling. Im Workshop "Love it or leave it" (Samstag/Sonntag, 13./14.05.) erarbeiten die Teilnehmer aus ihrem jeweiligen Portfolio unter Anleitung von Olivia Arthur ein eigenes Buchprojekt.

Die Präsentation von Fotografie ist auch zentrales Thema bei Emily Schiffer (*1980, Newton/USA). Internationale Aufmerksamkeit und etliche Auszeichnungen gewann die Fotojournalistin und Mit-Initiatorin des Donau-Projekts durch multimediale und interaktive Fotoprojekte, etwa die Installation großformatiger Fotos in verlassenen Gebäuden in Chicago oder ein Fotografie-Programm für Jugendliche in einem Reservat der Cheyenne-Indianer. Unter dem Titel "If your Picture was the Beginning" geht sie der Frage nach, was nach der Aufnahme aus Fotografien werden kann, etwa durch Bildbearbeitung und den Einsatz multimedialer Präsentationsformen. Bereits Ende März kommt die spanische Fotografin Lurdes R. Basolí (*1981, Barcelona) nach Frankfurt. Die Mitinitiatorin des Donau-Projekts widmet sich dem Thema Dokumentarfotografie mit Blick auf Landschaft: Unter dem Titel "The Landscape of the River as a Portrait" lotet Basolí im Workshop gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmern die Grenzen von Objektivität aus und diskutiert die mögliche Nähe des Fotografen zu seinem Objekt (Workshop: Samstag/Sonntag, 01./02.04.).

Lurdes R. Basolí lebt in Barcelona und San Sebastián als freie Fotografin für internationale Medien. Ihr Vortrag "What the River reveals" (Freitag, 31.03.) findet im Rahmen von Photography Players statt. Mit diesem jungen FFF-Gesprächformat, das zur Buchmesse im Herbst 2016 (mit Unterstützung von LVMH Watches & Jewellery) an den Start gegangen war, stellt Celina Lunsford, künstlerische Leitung des FFF, junge Talente sowie innovative Tendenzen und Projekte in der Fotografie vor.

Gleich dreimal steht im Frühsommer der beliebte Workshop "Fotogehen – Frankfurt sehen" auf dem Akademie-Programm. Jeweils am ersten Samstag im Mai (06.05.), Juni (03.06.) und Juli (01.07.) unternimmt der Frankfurter Fotograf und Bildjournalist Nils Thies gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmern eine Foto-Tour durch Frankfurt. Ziel sind neue Blickwinkel und Sichtweisen auf die Main-Metropole, ihre Architektur, Urbanität und Bewohner. Der Halbtageskurs wendet sich vor allem an Foto-Neulinge und Neu-Frankfurter, die ihren Blick unter Anleitung eines Profis schärfen und trainieren wollen.

"Nachwuchs an die Kamera" heißt das Motto beim Sommerferienprogramm FFF Junior: In jeweils viertägigen Ferien-Workshops lernen Kinder und Jugendliche den Umgang mit der Kamera, erarbeiten sich die Themen der aktuellen FFF-Fotografie-Ausstellung und fotografieren anschließend dazu selbst an ausgewählten Orten in Frankfurt. Angeleitet und begleitet werden die Gruppen vom Kölner Fotokünstler Wolfgang Zurborn und von professionellen Kunstpädagogen. FFF Junior, die gezielte Kunstvermittlung für Kinder und Jugendliche aus Frankfurter Schulen, KiTas und für junge Flüchtlinge, wird unter anderem vom Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Frankfurt unterstützt.

Außerdem im Programm der FFF-Akademie 2017: Workshops und Vorträge mit der US-Fotografin Ann Mandelbaum (Vortrag: 28.04.17; Workshop: 29./30.04.17) sowie den Fotografen Pep Bonet (Vortrag: 30.06.17; Workshop: 01./02.07.17) und Stanley Greene (Workshop: 10./11.06.17), beide Mitglied der Fotoagentur NOOR, Amsterdam. Ebenfalls 2017 wieder mit Vortrag und Workshop in Frankfurt: die deutschen Fotografen Olaf Otto Becker (Vortrag: 16.06.; Workshop: 17./18.06.) und Thekla Ehling (Workshop: 26./27.08.). Im September ist der französische Magnum-Fotograf Bruno Barbey mit Vortrag und Workshop (09./10.09.) zu Gast in Frankfurt – ein Beitrag des Fotografie Forum Frankfurt zum Gastlandprogramm Frankreich der diesjährigen Frankfurter Buchmesse.
