Beauty Remains: Three years Sascha Weidner Estate
Three years ago Sascha Weidner (1974-2015) left us and he will always be missed. Nevertheless, The Estate of Artist Sascha Weidner strives to continue keeping his work publicly visible. Thanks to all the friends and people around Sascha Weidner, the last three years were used to give his art the best opportunities for staying relevant in the future.
Of utmost importance was the donation of most of the more than 100 vintage prints, which had been left behind by Sascha Weidner, to the Sprengel Museum Hannover. There the photographs and his written estate found a new home thus making the Sprengel Museum the biggest collector of works by Sascha Weidner but also the center for scientific research. In August 2017 a first retrospective was presented under the title "It‘s all connected somehow – Estate observation I." Next to that noteworthy donations were given to Berlinische Galerie and the Museum Folkwang Essen to preserve the artistic legacy of Sascha Weidner.
Exhibitions
In cooperation with institutional partners, the estate was able to organize several solo exhibitions, at Sprengel Museum Hannover, FFF Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, Mönchehaus Museum Goslar, Dorothée Nilsson Gallery Berlin among others. One of the most noteworthy of the group shows was presented at Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Upcoming this summer is the group show "TraumWelten. In Between. Vom Träumen und vom Leben" (Dreamworlds. In Between. Of dreaming and of living) curated by Franziska Schmidt for Kunsthalle Talstrasse in Halle (Saale), Germany. Sascha Weidner will be presented together with Sibylle Bergemann, Sven Johne, Helga Paris, Miroslav Tichy among others.
Opening: June 22, 2018.
Publications
The estate published the monograph "Intermission II" with Hatje Cantz publishers, which was printed in the second edition due to high demand. The book contains four chapters showing the most iconic photographs by Sascha Weidner.
The Japanese work of Sascha Weidner, which he produced during his artist residency at Goethe-Institut Villa Kamogawa, Kyoto, was published with Koenig Books, London (Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König). "The Far Flowered Shore" was designed by acclaimed Tokyo designer Satoshi Machiguchi, who regularly designs the photo books for Japanese icons such as Daidō Moriyama and Sakiko Nomura.
We especially thank Dr. Bernd Huck (1948-2016) for his significant help in the first hours of the estate.
