BILL BRANDT: A CENTENARY RETROSPECTIVE celebrates the birth of Britain's best-loved photographer of modern times, with over 150 mainly vintage, gelatin-silver prints from the Bill Brandt Archive. Bill Brandt remains one of the pre-eminent photographers of the 20th century, whose work documented the vivid social contrasts between the World Wars. He photographed the landscapes of Literary Britain and a pantheon of great artists and writers, including Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon and Graham Greene. He also created the outstanding series Perspective of Nudes, which radically revised the photography of the nude. Events A diverse series of events, lectures and activities are taking place at the V&A to accompany the exhibition. Most events are free and drop-in. Enjoy an introductory slide lecture; get a personal view from the exhibition curator; learn how to take a portrait with a professional photographer; or take part in one of our photography workshops. BILL BRANDT CENTENARY SYMPOSIUM Saturday 1 May, 10.30-17.15 This symposium brings together major interpreters of Brandt's work in many fields - social scenes, Surrealism, night photography, wartime documentary, landscape, portraiture and the nude. Brandt's impact on other aspects of British culture will also be discussed. Tickets £50, concessions available. Call 020 7942 2211 for information and bookings.
