Jean - Pascal Imsand (1960 – 1994) counts among the best - known Swiss photographers of the 1990s. After his death aged 34, Imsand, who was affiliated with the Zurich - based agency Lookat Photos and the Vu agency in Paris, left behind a striking body of work that oscillates between idiosyncratic, subjective documentary and a poetic dreamworld, often characterised by a dark undertone. Since 2000, the Fondation Jean - Pascal Imsand (FJPI) has overseen his legacy, including his international award - winning photomontages and the ‘Brocki - Land’ portrait series that he realised for the ‘Zürich. Kreis 5’ project. A monograph (Lars Müller, 2004) and the retrospective exhibition organised together with the Fotostiftung Schweiz, the Musée de l’Elysée and the Galleria Gottardo underline the importance of his work. To fulfil the Fondation’s objectives, under the leadership of its president Daniel Schwartz, the FJPI joined various other institutions in their efforts to support and safeguard Swiss photography. The board of the FJPI has now decided to donate Jean - Pascal Imsand’s legacy to the Fotostiftung Schweiz in Winterthur, effective by the end of March 2018, in whose collection it will be integrated.
Imsand’s work is an important addition to the archives of Swiss photographers that have been entrusted to the Fotostiftung that will continue to promote it as an outstanding position in the history of Swiss photography. The intention is, among other things, to present his most important photographs in the Fotostiftung’s online collection and to place them in an international context.

Nachlass des Fotografen Jean - Pascal Imsand

Jean - Pascal Imsand (1960 - 1994) gehörte zu den bekanntesten Schweizer Fotografen der 1990er - Jahre. Als er mit 34 Jahren starb, hinterliess der mit den Agenturen Lookat Photos, Zürich, und Vu, Paris, affiliierte Imsand ein markantes Werk, das zwischen eigenwilliger, subjektiver Dokumentation und poetischer Traumwelt oszilliert, häufig geprägt von einem dunklen Unterton. Seit 2000 betreute die Fondation Jean - Pascal Imsand (FJPI) den Nachlass, darunter die international ausgezeichneten Fotomontagen und die für das Projekt «Zürich. Kreis 5» realisierte Porträtserie «Brocki - Land». Eine Monographie (Lars Müller, 2004) und die gemeinsam mit der Fotostiftung Schweiz, dem Musée de l'Elysée und der Galleria Gottardo erarbeitete Retrospektive verliehen der Bedeutung des Werks entsprechenden Ausdruck. In Erfüllung ihrer Stiftungszwecke unter der Leitung des Präsidenten Daniel Schwartz ergänzte die FJPI die von verschiedenen Einrichtungen gepflegte Förderung und Sicherung der Schweizer Fotografie. Nun hat sich die FJPI dazu entschieden, den Nachlass von Jean - Pascal Imsand per Ende März 2018 als Schenkung in den Bestand der Fotostiftung Schweiz, Winterthur, zu integrieren.
Die Fotostiftung erhält damit einen bedeutenden Zuwachs zu den von ihr betreuten Archiven von Schweizer Fotografen und kann eine weitere herausragende Position in der Geschichte der Schweizer Fotografie einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit zugänglich machen.
Vorgesehen ist u.a. die Präsentation der wichtigsten Arbeiten auf der Online - Plattform der Fotostiftung Schweiz sowie Projekte, die Imsand international positionieren.
