"RAGE AND DEVOTION"
"Reality is overrated and fantasy underestimated, in my opinion the richest thing that exists in life is fabulation and the power to imagine. That is why my photography is loaded with performative and cinematographic gestures, at the same time allusive to the pictorial archive and the documentary, using all the narrative tools to create some emotion within the imperfection. It is an affront to terror and
dehumanization because I believe that human passion is in itself an act of defiance. In this talk we will discuss the development of my work between the mutation of its aesthetics and ideology that has gone from anger to absolute devotion and vice versa."

LIZA AMBROSSIO, ADA TRILLO, GISÈLE FREUND
Liza Ambrossio is a Mexican artist who lives and works in Madrid. In 2018, she won the Voies Off Award (Arles) and the FNAC New Talent Award (Spain), and in 2017 the Discoveries award of the PHotoEspaña festival and La Fábrica. Her very personal series "The rage of devotion" shows images combining her family archive with pictorial canvases, inviting us to immerse into her emotional state.
Born in Berlin in 1908, Gisèle Freund was one of Europe’s most prominent photographers and a pillar among French feminist intellectuals after fleeing Nazi Germany and settling in Paris, where she pursued her doctoral studies at the Sorbonne She arrived in Mexico in 1950, where she met Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. She became close to the mythical couple and created the touching series on display.
Ada Trillo is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Philadelphia. Having grown-up in Juarez, Mexico, she is deeply troubled by the social problems affecting women of the border
towns. Her series "How did I get here?" centers on the lives of low-cost sex workers in Mexico. Recently her photographs have been included in the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

"HOW DID I GET HERE?"
"I was offered the opportunity to capture a series of photographs centering on the lives of prostitutes. The specific setting is unimportant because it is representative of the ravages that are visited on women by the prostitution industry around the world. In presenting this series, my goal is to depict and expose the adversity exploited women must overcome in their daily lives. I want to emphasize that I like these women, and I want others to understand their circumstances and see them as women who deserve to be acknowledged and helped. They have no health care and no access to rehabilitation."

ISABEL MUÑOZ
"AGUA"
Projection of the documentary "Agua" followed by a Q&A with the artist. "Under the water there is silence; under water we lose awareness of our body; underwater, nothing disturbs the photographermodel-camera trio. Isabel Muñoz sought this aspect by devoting herself to underwater photography for over a year. In Águilas, near Murcia, as well as in distant Japan, certain problematics are universal. Under water, the bodies we foresee struggle to free themselves while wrapped in plastic sheets." (From the book "The Anthropology of Feelings" - Isabel Muñoz, co-editor Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte / The Red Eye, 2018)

"AGUA, METHAMORPHOSIS, MITHOLOGIES"
Isabel Muñoz was born in Barcelona and has lived in Madrid since 1970. She stands out as an assertive photographer. Her series "Mythologies", taken in Bolivia, show mythological pre-Columbian masks and highlight the reaffirmation of human identities. She also illustrates the capacity to decorate and modify one’s own body and the desire to belong to a "tribe" in her series "Metamorphosis", shot in
Mexico. Taken under the Mediterranean waters and the seas of Japan, her series "Agua" (Water), is a warning signal, alerting us to the hazards that threaten the survival of marine environments.

*ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION 17:30-19:00
Cité Auditorium (2nd floor)
3, rue Genistre, L-1623 Luxembourg
"WOMEN IN PHOTOGRAPHY"
with JENNY FISCHBACH, DANIELLE IGNITI, CHRISTIAN MOSAR AND FRANÇOISE POOS
This round table discussion will focus on women photographers’ place in today’s art world in general, and on the situation in Luxembourg in particular. What is women’s contribution to the world of photography in the 21st Century? Is it really easier nowadays for women to make a career in photography than it used to be? In spite of a relatively high percentage of women graduating from photography schools nowadays, why is the number of male photographers still predominant?
