NEW ARTIST: JUSTINE TJALLINKS
Kahmann Gallery is proud to announce our newly represented artist Justine Tjallinks (NL, 1984). She will see her debut with the gallery at the upcoming PAN art fair from November 18 to 25.
It was while working as an art director and magazine designer that Tjallinks decided to create her own images. Being exposed to the codes and conventions of fashion photography everyday inspired here to celebrate what we as a society don't see as conventionally beautiful. Capturing their uniqueness, she works with people who are not professional models and often have something unusual in their features to celebrate the diversity of human beings.
Tjallinks meticulously plans her images in advance, styling and storyboarding all of it herself to create her distinct aesthetic: well-balanced, painterly scenes in muted tones. Her use of light is reminiscent of the Dutch Golden Age, yet the end result is always contemporary through the way she captures the unique essence of her subjects.
Tjallinks has already won many accolades in her still short career, including New Dutch Photography Talent in 2015 and 'One to Watch' by the British Journal of Photography in 2017, as well as being exhibited across the world. Her work has been widely featured in print, including Vogue Italia, New York Times Style Magazine and Volkskrant Magazine.
Kahmann Gallery is photography. Each pore breathes photography. In the beginning, the intention of the gallery was focused on Dutch photography, but is has broadened over time and now the gallery presents both work from national and international photographers, with the ambition to play a greater role in the international art fairs. Kahmann Gallery will continue to specialise in the sale of special photography that will survive the history or has already made ??history. Besides vintage photography from 1950 to 1970, the gallery represents timeless and contemporary works by contemporary and emerging photographers. Kahmann Gallery organizes 6-7 exhibitions per year and also operates as an art dealer and advisor for the purchase of photography for corporate collections.
