A lively and provocative exploration of photography of the face, by a new generation of artists/photographers who are extending the boundaries and questioning our accepted ideas of the portrait. In an age of media domination , new cosmetics, miracle drugs and genetic engineering - and through the photographic medium which itself is increasingly open to manipulation and doubt - the exhibition asks: do the notions of portraiture as an expression of the inner self through external appearance, still hold? Can we even talk of a 'fixed identity'? Can we still take these claims of the portrait at face value? Organised by the Musee de I'Eysee, Lausanne, with the generous support of Culturgest, Lisbon.
