Since 2010, the Museum Kunst der Westküste has been inviting international artists whose work to date has a connection to the particular character of the museum to Alkersum.

Entitled Made on Föhr, the exhibition initiates a new series of exhibitions accompanying the artist-in-residence programme. The group show presents a selection of photographic works, most of which are displayed publicly for the first time. Its thematic focus is on artistic practices centring on the subject of landscape on Föhr.

Nicole Ahland (b. 1970), Elina Brotherus (b. 1972) and Thomas Wrede (b. 1963) demonstrate complete independence and a typical consistency with their practices to date in each of their particular approaches to and perceptions and conceptions of the North Sea island. It also becomes clear that the spatial removal from normal life as well as the scenic features of the island, the openness of the islanders and the creative freedom inherent to the programme inspire the artists to explore new directions in their work.

Seit 2010 lädt das Museum Kunst der Westküste aktiv Künstlerinnen und Künstler als Artists in Residence nach Alkersum ein. Die Schau zeigt erstmals in einer Gruppenausstellung eine Auswahl von Arbeiten, die während oder im Prozess der Vor- oder Nachbereitung solcher Aufenthalte entstanden sind und überwiegend zum ersten Mal öffentlich präsentiert werden. Internationale Kunstschaffende, deren bisheriges Werk eine Verbindung zum Museumsprofil aufweist, erhalten auf Einladung die Möglichkeit zu einem Inspirations- und Arbeitsaufenthalt auf der Insel Föhr. Bislang konnten 29 internationale Artists in Residence begrüßt werden.

Die Ausstellung, die unter dem Titel "Made on Föhr" den Auftakt einer neuen Reihe bildet, konzentriert sich in diesem Jahr auf künstlerische Positionen, die sich seit Jahrzehnten mit dem Medium Fotografie beschäftigen und auf Föhr den Fokus auf das Thema Landschaft gelegt haben. In der Herangehensweise, der inhaltlichen Konzeption und Wahrnehmung der Nordseeinsel erweisen sich die drei Positionen als vollkommen eigenständig und zugleich stringent in ihrem jeweiligen eigenen bisherigen Schaffen. Zur Ausstellung erschien ein zweisprachiger Katalog.

Mit Nicole Ahland, geb. 1970, und Thomas Wrede, geb. 1963, stehen zwei in Deutschland lebende Künstler, der finnischen, in Paris und Helsinki lebenden Elina Brotherus, geb. 1972, gegenüber.
