Bridget Smith´s photo series "Glamour Studios" depict empty stage sets used for porn movies. The shifting boundaries between public and personal space in such situations, as well as how their corresponding experiences are constructed and signalled, lies at the heart of Smith´s work. In one sense she is catalogueing architectures of desire. Whether the thematic hotel rooms of California´s Madonna Inn, the gated architecture of Lake Las Vegas, sound recording studios, sporting arenas or the design of low-cost glamour studios are taken as her subject, these are all spaces where particular and recognised activities take place (but are not pictured as such by Smith). Furthermore, these sites negotiate between public and private space in terms of the creation of illusory fantasy worlds which cover over mundane reality. Bridget Smith was recently in a soloshow at Imago 02 at Centro de Arte Salamanca as well as a group show of new aquisitions at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh. This year she will participate at a show at the Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
