The Luxembourg Street Photography Festival 2021 is hosting a live conference with Berlin-based photographer Benita Suchodrev where she will speak about her work and her recent publications, conduct portfolio reviews and take part in a panel discussion along with fellow photographers Jane Evelyn Atwood and Giacomo Sini about the meaning of photography in the age of Instagram.

Benita Suchodrev was born in the former Soviet Union and immigrated to the United States where she received her BA in Liberal Arts with a focus on Art History, continuing to a MA in English Literature. In 2008 Benita relocated to Berlin where she engaged in an extensive documentation of the cosmopolitan city’s multifaceted art scene while pursuing diverse photographic projects.

In addition to her publications Of Lions and Lambs (2019) and 48 Hours Blackpool (2018) with Kehrer Verlag her photographs have appeared in Nachtleben Berlin 1974 – bis heute (Metrolit Verlag, 2013), Berlin Now (teNeues Verlag, 2009) and have been widely covered by television, radio and print media. Her portrait and documentary work has been exhibited in solo and group shows nationally and internationally and is part of the Michael Horbach Stiftung in Cologne, the Freundeskreis Willy-Brandt-Haus in Berlin, the Rafael Tous Foundation for Contemporary Art in Barcelona as well as private collections in Moscow, Berlin and New York. Benita works and lives in Berlin.

"I am attracted to the poetic and the bizarre, the bold and the vulnerable. I work intuitively with little interest for strict documentation or sensation but with high regard for authenticity, spontaneity and the transitional moment; that elusive split of a second between what has passed, what is to come and the traces it leaves behind. The drama and ambiguity of human expression and gesture in that transitional moment is what fascinates me the most."
