Pradip Malde is a photographer and teacher known for his special style of teaching photography philosophically, technically and with great empathy. In the FFF Academy, he is focusing on the materiality of photography in two events. This includes the platinum-palladium process, for which he is considered one of the few experts worldwide.

In the FFF online workshop "Materiality and Vision", Malde deals with the question of how the materiality of a photograph affects the meaning of the image. The aim is learning to express one’s own photographic work optimally with the right print method.

The focus of learning will be based on monitor and printer calibration, the analysis of high-resolution digital reproductions of well-known photographs as well as aspects of photo manipulation and the depiction of truth and vision. A portfolio review and a photographic and sequential assignment is also part of the schedule. The aim of the workshop is to gain a clearer understanding of how photographic work can be comprehensively articulated. The workshop is spread over three scheduled dates.

In his FFF online lecture "Platinotype: Materiality and Vision" (Friday, 18 June 2021, 6 pm), Pradip Malde explores the relationship between materiality and vision using the platinum-palladium printing process as an example, which he himself uses in his latest work “From Where Loss Comes”. The project which includes the theme of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) will also be published as a book soon.

Pradip Malde is professor at the University of the South, Sewanee (Tennessee) and a Guggenheim Fellow. Much of his photographic work considers the experience of loss and how it serves as a catalyst for regeneration. He is the author of the book "Platinotype: making photographs in platinum and palladium with the contemporary print-out process"; his current publication "From Where Loss Comes" (Charcoal Press) is forthcoming. He is currently working in rural communities in Haiti, Tanzania and Tennessee, designing models for community development through photography. His works are held in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago; Princeton University Museum; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Yale University Museum, New Haven; and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh, among others. Pradip Malde was an exhibiting artist in the photography triennial RAY 2018; his works were displayed in the exhibition "EXTREME ENVIRONMENTS" at the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt.

Pradip Malde ist Fotograf und wegen seines besonderen Stils, Fotografie philosophisch, technisch und mit großer Empathie zu vermitteln, auch ein gefragter Dozent für Fotografie. In der Akademie des Fotografie Forum Frankfurt (FFF) widmet er sich jetzt in zwei Veranstaltungen der Materialität von Fotografie. Dabei geht es auch um das Platin-Palladiumverfahren, für das er als einer der wenigen Experten weltweit gilt.

Im FFF-Online-Workshop "Materiality and Vision" behandelt Malde gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmenden die Frage, wie die Materialität einer Fotografie auf uns wirkt. Ziel ist, die eigene fotografische Arbeit auch mit der richtigen Printmethode optimal zum Ausdruck zu bringen.

Dazu beschäftigen sich die Teilnehmenden unter anderem mit der Kalibrierung von Monitor und Drucker, mit der Analyse hochaufgelöster digitaler Reproduktionen bekannter Fotografien sowie Aspekten von Fotomanipulation und der Abbildung von Wahrheit und Vision. Außerdem stehen Portfolio-Sichtung sowie eine fotografische und sequenzielle Aufgabe auf dem Programm. Ziel des Workshops ist ein klareres Verständnis dafür, wie sich fotografisches Schaffen umfassend artikulieren lässt. Der Workshop umfasst insgesamt drei Termine.

In seinem FFF-Online-Vortrag "Platinotype: Materiality and Vision" (Freitag, 18. Juni 2021, 18 Uhr) untersucht Pradip Malde die Beziehung zwischen Materialität und Vision am Beispiel des Platin-Palladium-Druckverfahrens, das er selbst in seiner jüngsten Arbeit "From Where Loss Comes" verwendet. Das Projekt, in dem sich Malde unter anderem mit weiblicher Genitalverstümmelung beschäftigt, erscheint demnächst auch als Buch.

Pradip Malde ist Professor an der University of the South in Sewanee (Tennessee, USA) und Guggenheim-Stipendiat. Ein Großteil seiner fotografischen Arbeit befasst sich mit der Erfahrung des Verlustes und der Frage, wie der Verlust zum Katalysator für Regeneration werden kann. Er ist Autor des Buches "Platinotype: making photographs in platinum and palladium with the contemporary print-out process" seine aktuelle Publikation »From Where Loss Comes« (Charcoal Press) erscheint demnächst. Derzeit arbeitet Malde in ländlichen Gemeinden in Haiti, Tansania und Tennessee und entwirft Modelle für die soziale (Weiter-)Entwicklung von Gemeinden durch Fotografie. Seine Werke befinden sich unter anderem in den Sammlungen des Art Institute of Chicago, des Princeton University Museum, des Victoria & Albert Museum (London), des Yale University Museum (New Haven) und der Scottish National Portrait Gallery (Edinburgh). 2018 waren Arbeiten des Fotokünstlers zu "EXTREME. ENVIRONMENTS" während der Foto-Triennale RAY im Fotografie Forum Frankfurt zu sehen.
