RAY FESTIVAL
Talks, MASTER CLASS and more – live and via livestream
1 - 3 September 2021, Frankfurt

As a central part of the programme of the 4th International Photography Triennial RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIES, the RAY FESTIVAL will take place with lectures and talks from 1 to 3 September. On three FESTIVAL days, international artists, curators and experts will discuss diverse perspectives and photographic positions on the topic of IDEOLOGIES. The FESTIVAL centre of RAY 2021 will be the Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. The results of the RAY MASTER CLASS, which took place under the supervision of RAY artist Johanna Diehl, will also be presented here from 1 to 12 September. The RAY FESTIVAL is made possible by the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation.

Important note for visitors: The RAY FESTIVAL is a hybrid event. Visitors are able to attend live (in accordance to the Covid rules currently in force at the venue ) and via live stream. Tickets for the live visit are available at the Museum Angewandte Kunst and are also valid for RAY IDEOLOGIES exhibitions, Partner Projects and the RAY MASTER CLASS exhibition from 1 to 3 September 2021. Due to pandemic conditions, the number of places is limited. A reservation should be made in advance via info@ray2021.de. The RAY FESTIVAL ticket costs 20€. The Museum Angewandte Kunst is hosting the presentation of the RAY MASTER CLASS exhibition "Essays of Undoing". Together with RAY artist Johanna Diehl, 13 students from universities of the region developed new works, which will be on show from 1 to 12 September. In cooperation with Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach, Hochschule Darmstadt, Kunsthochschule Mainz and Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule. Another exhibition is planned for 2022 at the Opelvillen Rüsselsheim. The RAY MASTER CLASS is made possible by the Crespo Foundation.

The pop-up exhibition with posters of NOW YOU SEE ME MORIA photos will take place during the RAY Festival from 1 to 3 September 2021 in the shop windows of the entire "Kulturmeile" Braubachstraße, 60311 Frankfurt, around the Fotografie Forum Frankfurt.

Keynotes, discussions and artist talks will be held partly in German and partly in English. Further information: here

The RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIES exhibition at the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation can be visited as part of guided tours on each of the three festival days at 6:30 pm. Pre-registration is necessary.

Catalogue for RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIEN

The catalogue for the 4th International Photography Triennial RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIES was published by Kehrer Verlag and will be presented at the RAY Festival. In addition to the documentation of the art works, essays by the authors Max Czollek, Kémi Fátoba, Rainer Forst, Franziska Kunze, Yasmina Price and Wolfgang Ullrich provide an examination of the very current theme of IDEOLOGIES. The RAY catalogue is made possible by the Dr. Marschner Foundation.

About the International Photography Triennial RAY 2021

RAY 2021 Fotografieprojekte Frankfurt/RheinMain is a cooperation between Art Foundation DZ BANK, Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, Museum Angewandte Kunst, Museum MMK für Moderne Kunst, Historisches Museum Frankfurt, Kunstforum der TU Darmstadt, Kunst- und Kulturstiftung Opelvillen Rüsselsheim, Marta Hoepffner-Gesellschaft für Fotografie e.V. im Stadtmuseum Hofheim, Museum Giersch der Goethe-Universität and Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. The international Triennial RAY Fotografieprojekte Frankfurt/RheinMain was founded in 2010 on the initiative of the Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain to bundle and highlight the outstanding potential of artistic photography in the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main region.

Als zentraler Programmpunkt der 4. Internationalen Fotografie-Triennale RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIEN findet vom 1. bis 3. September das RAY FESTIVAL mit Künstler_innen-Talks, Vorträgen und Projektpräsentationen statt. An den drei FESTIVAL-Tagen diskutieren internationale Künstler_innen, Kurator_innen und Expert_innen die vielfältigen Perspektiven und fotografischen Positionen zum diesjährigen RAY-Thema IDEOLOGIEN. Veranstaltungsort des RAY FESTIVALS ist das Museum Angewandte Kunst in Frankfurt am Main. Hier werden auch vom 1. bis 12. September die Ergebnisse der RAY MASTER CLASS präsentiert, die unter der Leitung der RAY Künstlerin Johanna Diehl stattgefunden hat. Das RAY FESTIVAL wird von der Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation ermöglicht.

Wichtiger Hinweis für Besucher_innen: Das RAY FESTIVAL findet als Hybridveranstaltung statt. Der Besuch ist live (angepasst an die aktuell vor Ort geltenden Covid-Regeln) und per Livestream möglich. Tickets für den Live-Besuch sind im Museum Angewandte Kunst erhältlich und während der Festivallaufzeit außerdem gültig für die RAY IDEOLOGIEN Ausstellungen, Partnerprojekte und die RAY MASTER CLASS. Im Museum Angewandte Kunst werden vom 1. bis 12. September die Ergebnisse der RAY MASTER CLASS präsentiert, die unter der Leitung der RAY Künstlerin Johanna Diehl stattgefunden hat. Die Ausstellung "Essays of Undoing" hat sie gemeinsam mit 13 Studierenden aus den Hochschulen der Region entwickelt. Für die MASTER CLASS kooperiert RAY mit der Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach, der Hochschule Darmstadt, der Kunsthochschule Mainz und der Hochschule für Bildende Künste – Städelschule. Die RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIEN Ausstellung in der Deutschen Börse Photography Foundation können Besucher_innen im Rahmen von Führungen an den drei FESTIVAL-Tagen jeweils um 18.30 Uhr besuchen. Eine Voranmeldung ist notwendig.

Katalog RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIEN

Der Katalog zur 4. Internationalen Fotografie-Triennale RAY 2021 IDEOLOGIEN erscheint Ende August im Kehrer Verlag und wird im Rahmen des RAY FESTIVALS vorgestellt. Neben einer Dokumentation der künstlerischen Arbeiten ermöglichen Essays der Autor_innen Max Czollek, Kémi Fátoba, Rainer Forst, Franziska Kunze, Yasmina Price und Wolfgang Ullrich eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem zeitaktuellen Thema IDEOLOGIEN. Ermöglicht wird der RAY Katalog von der Dr. Marschner Stiftung.

Über die internationale Fotografie-Triennale RAY 2021

RAY 2021 Fotografieprojekte Frankfurt/RheinMain ist eine Kooperation der Institutionen Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, Fotografie Forum Frankfurt, Kunststiftung DZ BANK, Museum Angewandte Kunst, MUSEUM MMK FÜR MODERNE KUNST, Historisches Museum Frankfurt, Kunstforum der TU Darmstadt, Kunst- und Kulturstiftung Opelvillen Rüsselsheim, Marta Hoepffner-Gesellschaft für Fotografie e.V. im Stadtmuseum Hofheim, Museum Giersch der Goethe-Universität und Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden. Die Triennale RAY Fotografieprojekte Frankfurt/RheinMain wurde 2010 auf Initiative des Kulturfonds Frankfurt RheinMain gegründet, um die Kompetenz und Vielfalt der künstlerischen Fotografie in der Region Frankfurt/Rhein-Main zu bündeln und herauszustellen.
