The Museum of Photography, Seoul presents eight national and international contemporary photographers and their novel perspectives in the exhibition Illusion drawn from the collections. As photography requires artists of today more than just capturing decisive moments, artists of various genres have expanded their oeuvre by appropriating the idea of photography. The exhibition Illusion introduces selections from the Museum’s contemporary collections representing various trends and experiments on photography in the contemporary art scene. Artists introduced in the exhibition boldly overthrows the stereotypical notion that photographs represent reality as it is. In addition, they delve deeply into the flatness and visual illusion of the image. This exhibition presents pictures of surreality as well as works that question the notion of flatness of photographs via incorporating various visual techniques such as collage, sewing, and lenticular.
