Photography depends on light, and without it images are extin­guished. This simple rule of physics also car­ries a metaphorical sense. How to cope without illuminated per­spec­tives and a clear vision of the future? The theme of the second edition of the Photography Salon at Raster Gal­lery is “exhaustion”, in both a photographic and a human sense. Noc­turne, twilight, extinc­tion, repose, but also forces and emotions arising after dusk: melan­choly, resistance, and social rebel­lion. Images created in artificial light, mon­tages and photographic com­plications, dying out in the gloom, or over­lap­ping per­spec­tives as an expres­sion of the inextin­guishable faith in the power of photography and the mind’s capacity to per­ceive meaning in darkness.
