The first exhibition after the relocation, “Resonance of Distance," will be held in this space to commemorate the awarding of the Art Encouragement Prize in 2021 by the Agency for Cultural Affairs to Takahiro Takano and the awarding of the Newcomer's Prize in the same category to Chikako Yamashiro. This exhibition, curated by Takano, will feature works on the theme of "distance," centering on Yamashiro's "Body of Tacit Approval" series and Takano's "Photo-Graph" series.
Yamashiro's "Silent Body" is a series of photographs of the human body taken in a limestone cave, while Takano's "Photo-Graph" series was initiated because she felt the shadow was a living thing independent of herself. Surrounded by coral reefs, there are more than 600 limestone caves in Okinawa. Photographed amid these caves, there is an interplay between the silhouettes of the stones and the forms of the bodies, reminiscent of the bodies of limestone caves. This exhibition will reconsider the work of these two artists, both of whom have been deeply involved in contemporary representations of the body, through the theme of "distance."
