Open Call 2023: Photography in Progress

1 November – 31 December 2022

For the first time, the "Internationale Photoszene Köln" is issuing an Open Call that will lead to a group exhibition for the Photoszene Festival in May 2023.

The Subject: Photography in Progress

With the title "Photography in Progress", the Open Call provides a thematic framework for artistic explorations of the medium of photography, whose production mechanisms are just as much in flux as they are capable of producing new visual languages and modes of use. "Photography in Progress" focuses on contemporary thematic fields of photography and at the same time illuminates how the constantly changing digital image practices can affect artistic approaches.

With the Open Call, the photography scene provides a platform for current photographic positions and is looking forward to versatile submissions from artists who work with the medium of photography and its extended sense of the post-photographic.

The submitted works will be reviewed by a jury and selected for a group exhibition at the Photoszene Festival in May 2023.

Who can participate?

* The Photoszene Open Call is open to all professional artists and photographers of all ages.
* The Photoszene Open Call is open to artists, photographers, students and graduates who work with the medium of photography and its extended tools.
* The Photoszene Open Call is open internationally. Half of the exhibition "Photography in Progress" will present artistic positions from North Rhine-Westphalia, the other half national and international positions. Thus, on the one hand, the Photoszene Open Call is aimed at people who come from North Rhine-Westphalia, have studied in North Rhine-Westphalia or currently live and work in North Rhine-Westphalia. On the other hand, the Open Call is aimed at international and national artists.

Die Internationale Photoszene Köln schreibt erstmals einen Open Call aus, der in eine Gruppenausstellung für das Photoszene-Festival im Mai 2023 mündet.

Das Thema: Photography in Progress

Mit dem Titel "Photography in Progress" spannt der Open Call einen thematischen Rahmen für künstlerische Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Medium der Fotografie, dessenProduktionsmechaniken sich ebenso im Wandel befinden wie sie neue Bildsprachen und Gebrauchsweisen hervorbringen können. "Photography in Progress" fokussiert auf zeitgenössischeThemenfelder der Fotografie und beleuchtet gleichzeitig, wie sich die stetig ändernden, digitalenBildpraktiken auf künstlerische Herangehensweisen auswirken können.

Die Photoszene gibt mit dem Open Call aktuellen fotografischen Positionen eine Plattform und freut sich auf vielseitige Einreichungen von Künstler:innen, die mit dem Medium der Fotografie undihrem erweiterten Sinne des Post-Fotografischen arbeiten.

Die eingereichten Arbeiten werden von einer Jury gesichtet und für eine Gruppenausstellung zum Photoszene-Festival im Mai 2023 ausgewählt.

Der Zeitplan

* Der Open Call beginnt ab dem 1. November 2022.
* Die Deadline für Einreichungen ist 23:59 Uhr 31. Dezember 2022.
* Die Jury wird Ende Januar 2023 tagen.
* Die teilnehmenden Künstler:innen werden Anfang Februar über die Teilnahme informiert.
Die Jury besteht aus sieben Expert:innen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen

Wer kann mitmachen?

* Der Photoszene Open Call steht allen professionellen Künstler:innen und Fotograf*innenjeden Alters offen.
* Der Photoszene Open Call richtet sich an Künstler*innen, Fotograf*innen, sowie Studierendeund Absolvent*innen, die mit dem Medium der Fotografie und seinen erweiterten Werkzeugenarbeiten.
* Der Photoszene Open Call ist international ausgeschrieben.

* Die Ausstellung "Photography in Progress" soll zur einen Hälfte künstlerische Positionen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen präsentieren, zur anderen Hälfte überregionale und internationalePositionen. Somit richtet sich der Photoszene Open Call zum einen an Personen, die aus Nordrhein-Westfalen kommen, in Nordrhein-Westfalen studiert haben oder aktuell in Nordrhein-Westfalen wohnen. Zur anderen Hälfte richtet sich der Open Call an internationaleund nationale Künstler*innen.
