MARTIRIO by Marcelo Brodsky (b.1959, Argentina) in collaboration with the artists Fernando Bryce (b.1965, Perú); Martín Kovensky (b.1958, Argentina) & Fredi Casco (b.1967, Paraguay); supported by research and conceptual contributions of José Emilio Burucua (b.1946, Argentina) and Carles Guerra (b.1965, Spain); Suggests that each image, through its historical context, accrues successive layers of meaning over time. It underscores how dominant visual representations and narratives have perpetuated a fictional portrayal of our culture and history. These narratives may be infused with spontaneous popular mythification or serve as veiled symbols of pervasive colonization. By signing these pieces, Brodsky emphasizes a singular geographical focus: a diagonal "America," a continent indelibly marked by the martyrdom of its courageous figures.
