One of the hallmarks of the work of the Brazilian artist Jonathas de Andrade is the fact that it stems from the activation of a collective. The artist throws out a proposal to a group of people so that each of them, from their own idiosyncrasies, can perform exercises that expand the contexts and realities in which these groups operate. This ability to prefigure possible futures through the confrontation of bodies makes his works close but at the same time open the series offered as part of the programme of “The Sound of Your Eye Brushing by Me” (El sonido del roce de tu ojo al pasar). The bodies that become activated next to Andrade’s own body look at each other, brush against each other, listen to each other, and move. They are organisms with different skins, human and animal, of diverse phenotypes. They are bodies that tighten, but above all, caress each other.

The Vaulted Room presents a selection of his most recent films - O Peixe, Nó na garganta, Colombófilos, Olho da Ruta and Jogos Dirigidos - all of which expand our universe with a multicultural, multiracial and even multi-species vision. Each one introduces us to actual places, but in the game, they succeed in moving us from Western thought towards other ontologies, other ways of understanding the world, that exist in the Global South, and allow us to become aware of the capacity art has, through the decontextualisation of bodies, both those appearing on the screen and our own bodies watching them, to imagine the future.
