Photography is more than just capturing moments - it is a tool for telling stories.
The exhibition Storylines is dedicated to the power of visual narratives: how do photographers manage to tell stories about life, change and emotions through series of images? What stories lie behind the motifs - and which ones are created in our minds?
Thomas Nondh Jansen raises the question of the meaning of home. In the market square, he presents a colourful, almost pop-art series that shows that the most beautiful stories are often found right on our doorstep. In the arcades leading to the church, Olivier Schillen draws attention to the phenomenon of mass tourism and its influence on cities, landscapes and cultural spaces. His works move between intimate moments and collective experiences, opening up new perspectives on a global phenomenon.
In the garden opposite the church, Neckel Scholtus invites visitors on a journey through her family history. Her photographic self-portrait attempt takes the form of a visual charade in which she plays with clues, shapes and colours. In the arcades of the Grand-Rue, Manon Diederich documents her family home as a living archive in which memories, narratives and temporalities overlap. In the Brahaus garden, Karin Schmuck presents her long-term project, which since 2018 has been dedicated to places that were considered the ‘ends of the world’ in ancient times. Pasha Rafiy, on the other hand, uses the symbolic complexity of birds in his series of works in the castle garden to reflect on social conditions. At the train station, Anna Krieps explores selfie culture, which has established itself on social media such as Instagram and TikTok as a stage for identity and self-presentation.
Clervaux - Cité de l'Image and the Lycée Edward Steichen Clervaux (LESC) are deepening their collaboration with a joint exhibition project in public space. As part of this cooperation, the Lycée will have its own garden in the Cité de l'Image for the first time, which will serve as an exhibition space for the students' works.
With Storylines, Clervaux itself becomes an open picture book in which personal, social and cultural narratives come together. The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover public space and be surprised by the stories of the photographers - and their own.
