What does ‘home’ mean to you? For Thomas Nondh Jansen, who was adopted from Thailand as a child and grew up in the Netherlands, it is the personal stories of everyday life that make up his home. He loves being at home and is fascinated by the shapes and colours of everyday objects and household routines.

With a lot of patience, glue and tape, Thomas transforms ordinary household items into new compositions full of imagination and wonder. He invites us to take a visual journey through his home and discover the hidden beauty of the ordinary.

Did you know that the tomato photo was made from a total of 16 kilograms of fresh tomatoes? Thanks to the culinary skills of Thomas' wife Nelleke, these were turned into jam, juice, sauce and salads over several months. The tape photo is also impressive for its delicate craftsmanship: all the green stripes were carefully applied by hand and each individual sugar piece was precisely arranged. The first sponge photo was taken back in 2012. After ten versions and twelve years of artistic development, the final work is now presented in the form of an elegant arch - a clear sign of the long and intensive engagement with the motif.

Thomas Nondh Jansen shows us that we often find the most beautiful stories right at home - sometimes a glance at the kitchen table is enough to experience wonder.

Thomas Nondh Jansen (*1985, Bangkok) lives and works in the Netherlands. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2013 and teaches art and photography for various museums. His work ranges from personal projects to commissioned photography. His clients include The New York Times, The Financial Times Magazine, Die Zeit, De Volkskrant, The Wall Street Journal, NRC Handelsblad and KesselsKramer.

He was a finalist at the 36th International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories in Hyères (2021) and for the Eyes on Talent Photography Prize in Paris (2023). His work has been exhibited at FOAM (NL), Villa Noailles (FR), the Kunstmuseum Den Haag and at festivals such as Les Rencontres d'Arles, Photoville New York and the Unseen Photo Festival Amsterdam.

Was bedeutet "Zuhause" für dich? Für Thomas, der als Kind aus Thailand adoptiert wurde und in den Niederlanden aufwuchs, sind es die persönlichen Geschichten des Alltags, die sein Zuhause ausmachen. Er ist gerne zu Hause und ist fasziniert von den Formen und Farben alltäglicher Gegenstände und Haushaltsroutinen.

Mit viel Geduld, Kleber und Klebeband verwandelt Thomas gewöhnliche Haushaltsgegenstände in neue Kompositionen voller Fantasie und Staunen. Er lädt uns ein, auf eine visuelle Reise durch sein Zuhause zu gehen und die verborgene Schönheit des Gewöhnlichen zu entdecken.

Wussten Sie, dass das Tomatenfoto aus insgesamt 16 Kilogramm frischer Tomaten gefertigt wurde? Dank der kulinarischen Fähigkeiten von Thomas’ Frau Nelleke entstanden daraus über mehrere Monate hinweg Marmelade, Saft, Soße und Salate. Auch das Klebebandfoto beeindruckt durch seine filigrane Handarbeit: alle grünen Streifen wurden sorgfältig von Hand angebracht, und jedes einzelne Zuckerstückchen wurde präzise arrangiert. Das erste Schwammfoto entstand bereits im Jahr 2012. Nach zehn Versionen und zwölf Jahren künstlerischer Weiterentwicklung präsentiert sich das finale Werk heute in Form eines eleganten Bogens - ein deutliches Zeichen für die lange und intensive Auseinandersetzung mit dem Motiv.

Thomas zeigt uns, dass wir die schönsten Geschichten oft direkt zu Hause finden - manchmal reicht ein Blick auf den Küchentisch, um das Staunen zu erleben.

Er schloss 2013 sein Studium an der Königlichen Kunstakademie in Den Haag ab und unterrichtet Kunst und Fotografie für verschiedene Museen. Seine Arbeiten bewegen sich zwischen persönlichen Projekten und Auftragsfotografie. Zu seinen Auftraggebern zählen u. a. The New York Times, The Financial Times Magazine, Die Zeit, De Volkskrant, The Wall Street Journal, NRC Handelsblad und KesselsKramer.
