The auction “Contemporary Japanese Photography from the R. Angst Collection” focuses on works created in the 1970s, 1990s, and 2000s, reflecting a range of movements and artistic directions within the Japanese photography scene. The pieces originate from the collection of Roland Angst (1944–2022), a trained graphic designer who, from 2008 onwards, operated a gallery for photography and photobooks in Berlin under the name ONLY PHOTOGRAPHY. Through his personal and professional ties to Japan, he played a significant role in introducing and promoting Japanese photography in Germany.
