As we proudly unveil the work of photo artist Robert Charles Mann, we invite you to meditate on the role that the fixed image plays in our perception of temporality. Created with pinhole cameras handcrafted by the photographer himself that allow to perpetually capture the sun’s path over six months, from solstice to solstice (here, across the sky above the storied Château Miraval,) Robert’s images are an enchanting reflection of the perpetual present, the unending cycle of seasons, a tribute to the constant transformation of matter.

Dreamlike abstractions that link the artist just as strongly to the pictorialist photographic movement as to the grand tradition of landscape photography, this work essentializes the photographer’s desire to return to his artform at its most elemental. Pushing back against the overabundance of images and content linked to the new and emerging technologies of the 21st century, Robert has instead chosen singularity and the slow arc of time: an outlook that we cherish as well.
