Digital semiotics is Binschtok‘s latest body of work: in precise and stunning photographic compositions, located between the textual and visual levels, Viktoria Binschtok traces a potentially new phenomenon of human communication in (post?-)digital times. "digital semiotics is a series of photographic images that show a range of different objects – they all refer to symbols (emojis, memes, hashtags) we use in digital communications. "What is special about these selected symbols is that they represent something else in digital space, than theyactually depict in our physical world: in fact, they are pictorial codes, which can be used to send illegal or private messages. These codes are not universal, their meaning changes from group to group, culture or generation – my photographs are therefore not universally valid translations, but rather snapshots of a cultural phenomenon of our networked communication, which is constantly changing" - Viktoria Binschtok
Furthermore, the presentation features works by Juan Pablo Echeverri, Sven Johne, and Ulrich Gebert, establishing a cross-generational dialogue between complementing positions of Klemm’s programme.
