A highlight of Klemm’s presentation at Paris Photo 2025 is Adrian Sauer’s pivotal image cycle Truth Table, featured in the PRISMS sector. In his ongoing project based on the 8-bit RGB system, Sauer employs the full spectrum of 16,777,216 colors, arranging them into compositions that oscillate between diagram and image, system and perception. The result is a body of work that elegantly questions how images are made, seen, and understood in the digital age.
For many years, Sauer has explored the media properties of digital images, developing works that reveal their artificial yet poetic nature. His fundamental interest is in exploring the structures that make an image ‘recognizable’ today. The special character of his images is determined by the processual nature of their aesthetics. They can be perceived as fluid structures; something that develops from the reality effect of photography through the process of digital manipulation to a painterly effect, placing the emphasis on the phenomena he creates.
Overall, Adrian Sauer’s practice investigates the very conditions of photography—its processes of creation, perception, and interpretation. In the tradition of image-analytical photography, his work unfolds through a precise, minimalist visual language that transforms digital image structures into objects of reflection and aesthetic experience.
