“Sex and Politics” curated by Danila Tkachenko and Slavica Veselinović, explores the intersections of sexuality, representation, and power in contemporary photography. The exhibition features artists whose work engages the body, desire, and the cultural ideologies that shape them.
As Slavoj Žižek writes in The Plague of Fantasies:
“Sexuality is not simply a matter of private pleasure or personal freedom — it is an arena where ideological assumptions, social hierarchies, and symbolic power are negotiated… The liberation of sexual desire can thus never be straightforwardly opposed to politics — it is always already implicated in the larger political and ideological systems that govern society.”
This paradox — between liberation and control, between freedom and commodification — forms the core of the Sex and Politics project.
