Working from Accra, he reimagines personal and collective archives to create emotionally resonant narratives of modern African life.

“Memories Between Earth and Sky” is an ongoing collaborative series made with his mother, using fictionalized portraits of lovers and friends to reconstruct her love story with the artist’s late father—from their first meeting to her final farewell at his grave.

Inspired in part by forensic reconstruction, Idun-Tawiah translates memory, testimony, and emotion into images, expanding photography beyond documentation into a tool for reimagining what was never fully recorded.

By restaging scenes with preserved clothing and family belongings, he honors ordinary love, domestic life, and the fragile intimacy of family memory. The work invites viewers to see their own histories reflected in these imagined photographs.
