The treshold of perception.
At its core, the presentation explores what photography cannot fully capture: the thermodynamic infinity hidden within a haystack (Gostelie), the toxic chemistry embedded in the film emulsion itself (Oosterholt), the moral weight absorbed by a silent landscape (Reimers), and the Eros concealed beneath a decaying petal (Smulders).
Steffi Reimers ( NL 1995) - Guilty Gounds
“Guilty Grounds” by Steffi Reimers delves into the landscapes of Calabria, revealing them as silent tes monies to the haunting acts of the ‘Ndrangheta. Through her evocative imagry, Reimers captures the dichotomy of serene landscapes marred by unsetteling memories, inviting viewers on an emotional journey of introspection, remembrance, and resilience. As the landscapes whisper tales of both beauty and transgression, Reimers challenges us to confront the profound imprints of history and humanity.
Emile Gostelie ( NL 1958) - Laws of the Haystack
Driven by a fascination with what lies beyond human perception, Gostelie combines scientific concepts with artistic intuition in his long-term project Haystack — centered on a single photograph that evokes monuments, myths, and mystery. Inspired by Boltzmann’s theory that stable objects conceal endlessly shifting micro configurations, Gostelie deconstructs the image into smaller parts and reassemble them into countless combinations, making visible the unseen potential locked within one photo.
Tjitske Oosterholt ( NL 1991) - A Continual Unfolding - Polaroid Photographs
Oosterholt’s practice is rooted in an intuitive and experimental interaction with matter, in whichcraftsmanship and the innovative use of photographic techniques play a central role. The series ‘A Continual Unfolding’ is an exploration of the uncontrollable, of giving in to the unknown and an openness to whatever is unfolding before us.
