Hosted by Villa Heike, the International Limited-Residency MFA in Photography program at the Hartford Art School / University of Hartford (US) is pleased to present "LONG ENOUGH TO TIE MY SHOE" an exhibition featuring the work of eleven master students from the class of 2027. Their photographic works reflect a range of approaches and styles, yet all engage photography’s enduring relationship to time — its ability to hold, mark and measure a moment. Each artist uses the camera as a starting point for reflection on growth, memory, distance, and family.

Through gesture, landscape, body, and trace, these artists consider duration as both threshold and transformation. Working with distinct practices, they meet at long enough to tie my shoe — not a place, but a measure of time that allows for pause, awareness, and the possibility of becoming.

Curated by Robert Lyons, this exhibition features in-progress work by first-year MFA students in the program. Special thanks go to Michael Vahrenwald (program director) and Chikara Umihara, for their valuable insight and assistance in making this exhibition possible.

Das internationale MFA-Programm für Fotografie der Hartford Art School / University of Hartford (USA) (International Limited-Residency MFA) ist zu Gast in der Villa Heike und freut sich, "LONG ENOUGH TO TIE MY SHOE" zu präsentieren – eine Ausstellung, die Arbeiten von elf Masterstudierenden des Jahrgangs 2027 zeigt. Ihre fotografischen Werke spiegeln eine Vielfalt an Ansätzen und Stilen wider, setzen sich jedoch allesamt mit der beständigen Beziehung der Fotografie zur aktuellen Zeit auseinander – mit ihrer Fähigkeit, einen Augenblick festzuhalten, zu markieren und zu messen. Jeder der Künstler nutzt die Kamera als Ausgangspunkt für Reflexionen über Wachstum, Erinnerung, Distanz und Familie.

Mittels Gesten, Landschaften, des Körpers und Spuren betrachten diese Künstler Dauer sowohl als Schwelle als auch als Transformation. Obwohl sie mit ganz unterschiedlichen künstlerischen Praktiken arbeiten, treffen sie sich in "LONG ENOUGH TO TIE MY SHOE" an keinem physischen Ort, sondern in einem Zeitmaß, das Raum für Innehalten, Bewusstwerdung und die Möglichkeit des Werdens lässt.

Die von Robert Lyons kuratierte Ausstellung präsentiert Arbeiten, die sich noch im Entstehungsprozess befinden und von Studierenden des ersten MFA-Studienjahres im Rahmen des Programms geschaffen wurden. Besonderer Dank gilt den Dozenten Michael Vahrenwald (Leiter des Programms) und Chikara Umihara für ihre wertvollen Impulse und ihre Unterstützung bei der Realisierung dieser Ausstellung.
