“No applause. No life. No pain." unfolds a panorama of transformation: the disappearance of species, the shifting of collective cultural spaces, and the evaporation of shared perception. Claudia Larcher intertwines ecological narratives of mourning with questions about the future of cinema and image production in the age of generative AI. The result is a contemporary, posthumanist vanitas perspective in which images, bodies, and the environment appear as fragile structures that speak of loss, change, and care.

At the heart of the exhibition are three groups of works: Extinction Story, Still Life 3000, and The End. Together, these works form a narrative about change, mourning, and responsibility, and explore how we, as a society, want to develop and use technologies beyond the logic of acceleration, ownership, and (self-)optimization. The exhibition makes it possible to experience that recognizing gaps, errors, and malfunctions holds productive potential, a space for pausing, realigning, and resonating. “No applause. No life. No pain." is thus neither dystopian nor resigned. The exhibition opens a critical yet poetic space for renegotiating human (power) apparatuses.

"No applause. no life. no pain." entfaltet ein Panorama der Transformation. Des Verschwindens der Arten, des Verschiebens kollektiver Kulturräume sowie der Verflüchtigung gemeinsamer Wahrnehmung. Claudia Larcher verknüpft dabei ökologische Trauernarrative mit Fragen nach der Zukunft von Kino und Bildproduktion im Zeitalter generativer KI. Daraus entsteht eine zeitgenössische, posthumanistische Vanitas-Perspektive, in der Bilder, Körper und Umwelt als verletzliche Gefüge erscheinen, die von Verlust, Wandel und Fürsorge erzählen.

Im Zentrum stehen drei Werkgruppen – Extinction Story, Still Life 3000 und The End. Zusammen bilden die Arbeiten ein Narrativ über Wandel, Trauerarbeit und Verantwortung und fragen, wie wir als Gesellschaft Technologien jenseits der Logik von Beschleunigung, Besitz und (Selbst)optimierung entwickeln und nutzen wollen. Die Ausstellung macht erfahrbar, dass im Erkennen von Lücken, Irrtümern und Fehlfunktionen ein produktives Potenzial liegt, ein Raum des Innehaltens, des Neuausrichtens und der Resonanz. "No applause. no life. no pain." ist damit weder dystopisch noch resigniert. Die Ausstellung eröffnet einen kritischen und zugleich poetischen Raum für die Neuverhandlung menschlicher (Macht) apparate.
