For the second time we are presenting recent and earlier acquisitions at the renowned Paris Photo fair. Featuring works by artists from different generations, geographies, and visual languages, the presentation explores the complex relationship between identity, home, kinship and attachment.
What does it mean to belong? And how does it feel to long for a place, a community, or a sense of self? The artists included in this display approach belonging not as a fixed condition, but as an ongoing negotiation shaped by movement, social structures, cultural heritage, political and personal experience. From Mame-Diarra Niang’s abstract reflections on selfhood, memory and forgetting, and Tom Wood’s portrayals of families, to Jamel Shabazz’s vivid celebration of community and collective presence, the works exhibited reveal how individuals and groups carve out spaces of connection, solidarity and resilience. Notions of displacement and transformation resonate in the work of both Olgaç Bozalp and Aaryan Sinha as they reflect on migration, borders, and divisive histories, while Sabiha Çimen and Tokuko Ushioda turn to close relationships and familial bonds as sites of belonging. Gordon Parks, Santu Mofokeng and Joseph Rodríguez each document and shed light on the social and political realities that shape their respective communities.
With works by Olgac Bozalp, Sabiha Çimen, Santu Mofokeng, Mame-Diarra Niang, Gordon Parks, Joseph Rodríguez, Jamel Shabazz, Aaryan Sinha, Tokuko Ushioda and Tom Wood, this presentation invites us to consider be/longing as both a shared human desire and a deeply personal experience: a state of being and a condition of longing.
On Thursday, 12 November at 2 pm, we will host an artist talk at our booth P03. Artists Olgaç Bozalp and Mame-Diarra Niang will be in conversation with Anne-Marie Beckmann, Director of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation, and Renée Mussai, curator and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Foundation. The event will be held in English and no registration is required. Tickets for the fair can be purchased via Paris Photo.
