The first ever exhibition of Sam Taylor-Wood in Russia introduces the oeuvre of this famous British artist to Russian art lovers. Sam Taylor-Wood is one of the most prominent members of the group known as Young British Artists. The exhibition displays two new photo series and three video projects of the artist. The exhibition is arranged with the assistance of the British Council in St Petersburg. In her photo and video art Sam Taylor-Wood creates ambiguous situation focusing on such human emotions as desire, anger, loneliness and boredom. Collaborating with professional actors, amateurs and friends she easily orchestrates scenes by means of media as a mirror of human emotions and gestures. Many of her works bear an impact of personal experience. She often appeals to iconography of the old masters. The main characters of Sam Taylor-Wood's works are such world celebrities as Sir Elton John, David Beckham, Hugh Grant and Kylie Minogue. Sam Taylor-Wood was born in London. She is a graduate of the Goldsmith's College (1990). In 1997 she became a winner of the Illy Café Prize at the Venice Biennale. In 1998 she was nominated for a prestigious Turner Prize. Sam Taylor-Wood contributed to the most famous international exhibitions. The artist held solo exhibitions in Amsterdam, London, Montreal and New-York. Alongside the exhibition in the Russian Museum Sam Taylor-Wood displays her works in the White Cube Gallery in London which granted the video works of the artist for her first exhibition in Russia.
