Karim Rashid is an Industrial Designer. His perspective and clients are global and he considers himself a cultural shaper doing projects ranging from products, interiors, fashion, furniture, lighting, to art and music. He received a bachelor of Industrial Design in Ottawa, Canada and Postgraduate studies in Italy in 1984. He worked for 7 years at KAN Design in Toronto then in 1993 he opened his own studio in New York City whith clients such as Umbra, Nambe, Magis, Edra, Prada, Cappellini, Frighetto, Misaka, Sony, Target, Bozart, Issey Miyake, Shiseido, Giorgio Arman, Copco, Yahoo, Alessi, among others. He designed the famous Morimoto restaurant in Philadelphia, just completed the semiramis hotel in Athens and Nooch in NYC. He is working on hotels, restaurants, and shops in London, Moscow, New York, Dallas and Turkey. Presently he is working in 23 countries. He has won numerous awards and his work is in permanent collection of 14 Museums. He has over 1000 objetcs on the market. He exhibits art at Sandra Gering and Deitch Projects in New York. He has a monograph called “I Want to Change the World” (Rizzoli, 2001) and the International Design Yearbook 2003 (Calmann King), a new book portfolio published by Chronicle books (2004), and has a new book called EVOLUTION that has released this month. The Karim Rashid flagship shop just opened in NYC 2005.
