Personal Statement Mental and social structures as well as experiencing the culture are my basic themes. In photography the tension between rational - irrational subjects and ideas or reality - fiction, which is given by photography itself, interests me. My photographs relay on the fact that the camera has documented something that has been seen. Even if some images and themes seem to be chosen randomly the photograph keeps the relationship with the reality. In still lives and landscapes the scale is obscure. The infinity as an idea and visual element follows through all my pictures. The infinity can be seen in the papers, in an antenna and even in the boxes, which also have an opposite side, the closed universe. I have been photographing objects and spaces in which I see the cultural and social potential. Without the individual the potential of an object will not be used and the object or the space is nothing but a mystical target of great wonder. For example a sport field is in the right state first when the needed amount of players are on the field ("British well flattened green grass rectangle"). When photographing more objects, instead of order, I started to see the idea of chaos in those objects. That became a new series of pictures called Fear and Security Ideas. In these images I have been trying to catch the idea of the society: filing, sorting and systemizing things to be more secure and organized. In these kinds of actions I see a great paradox. By putting up security measures you cause unnecessary fear and insecurity of something unknown. This series as well as some recent series are about the experience of loosing control of something. Most of my new pictures are from the Untitled Ideas and Sweeping Generalizations. These pictures are full of crazy ideas and suggestions but also with personal concern about society. For example images of the series Sweeping Generalizations are reproduced from the latest newspaper photographs. The same kind of visual method follows in my photographs – whiteness and minimalism. The experience, when looking at my photographs is trying to be analogical with the titles of the works. Nanna H
